With a formal education in television broadcasting and communications and a background in television production, I come from a media where seconds count, scripts are analyzed for word power, and words paint living memories. It’s astounding how a few words can change lives, and bring pleasure, tears, or laughter to so many.
What inspires you to write?
A topic I’m passionate about.
Tell us about your writing process.
For me, novel writing is like growing a rare plant. The story sprouts from a topic that I care deeply about. Once that seed is planted, I mentally choose a location, create the plot and subplot, and cast the lead characters. Their journey plays in my mind like a motion picture. Then, I sit down at the computer and write out the plot and subplot, the high points, climax, and denouement. I prepare an in-depth character outline, form a timeline, and start writing the story, allowing it take on a life of its own.
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
I feel what they feel and hope they will say the right thing!
What advice would you give other writers?
Write, write, write!
How did you decide how to publish your books?
Agents repeatedly replied to my submissions saying they didn’t have the time to put into a new novelist. Finally, I decided to self-publish. My advise to new authors: make your manuscript the best it can be and then do what you need to do to publish it.
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
It is a time of change. The explosion of the digital book market has created many opportunities to new authors.
What genres do you write?
Young Adult, Thriller Suspense, Romantic Suspense
What formats are your books in?
eBook, Print, Both eBook and Print
