What inspires you to write?
I get ideas from everyday life. As much as I love traveling and experiencing the world, most of my inspiration happens right around the corner. I make notes and some of my thoughts throughout the day will trigger pages of a story.
Tell us about your writing process.
Writing for me is mostly stream of consciousness. Before I get too far into any story I do like to do a lot of character development, layout the plot, and maybe a few key scenes that I have in mind. It definitely helps me to see where a story is progressing, and if I diverge from it – no big deal! Sometimes those moments where I stray off course are the gems.
What advice would you give other writers?
Find your own voice and be true to it.
How did you decide how to publish your books?
After I finished my first novel I planned on sending out queries to agents, publishers, etc, but that changed and I decided to self-publish. I changed the plan from the grueling query process because I realized you can have greater success on your own. It really depends how much time you dedicate to it, and a certain part is luck and if your story takes on a life of it’s own with your readers. It is a gamble, but I was willing to take it rather than send out hundreds of queries and wait months for responses.
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
I think like the music business most of the smaller publishing house will continue to struggle and the business will still be dominated by the major names. This has lead to such a strong network and support for indie and self-publishers. We all work together and definitely keep indie titles alive.
What formats are your books in?
Both eBook and Print
