About Linda Bond:
Linda Bond is an Emmy award winning journalist by day and an author of romantic adventures by night. She’s also the mother of five, four athletes and an adopted son from Cuba. What inspires you to write?
I was inspired to write Cuba Undercover by my own real life love story. I am a TV reporter and I traveled to Cuba in 1998 when Pope John Paul visited. During that assignment I met my husband Jorge who was born in Cuba. I fell in love with the man, and his country and culture. I was doing a story on his family because decades after the Cuba revolution ended his family was still being divided by their opinions on the Cuban government. Passion and politics make for a great thriller.
Tell us about your writing process.
I definitely outline my books first, but they often change during the different edits. Since I write mystery and thrillers, I need to know ahead of time who did it, or what happens so I can plant the red herrings and the clues.
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
I often hear their dialogue in my head. I don’t become them but can definitely hear them talking to each other.
What advice would you give other writers?
Don’t quit. And practice. Just like anything else, the more you practice, the better you get. And write for the love of it, not for money or to get famous.
How did you decide how to publish your books?
I met an Entangled editor at the Romance Writer’s of America conference and I submitted my book. They loved it, but made me edit it. A lot. And I had been turned down many times before. Just. Don’t. Quit.
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
I think its changing every day, but its an exciting time to be an author because you have many new ways to publish your works.
