L. Blankenship started writing animal stories as a kid and it’s just gotten completely out of hand since then. Now she’s out publishing her gritty fantasy and hard science fiction adventures. L grew up in New Hampshire but currently lives near Washington, DC.
What inspires you to write?
There are so many stories to tell, how could I not write?
Tell us about your writing process.
I’m a plotter who works from an outline and extensive notes about the characters and the world.
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
Yes. I listen, talk, argue, get impatient with, and sometimes yell at them. It’s how I know they are real people.
What advice would you give other writers?
Don’t let the ease of self-publishing make you impatient. Take the time to master the craft of writing.
How did you decide how to publish your books?
I have 15 years’ experience with graphic design, prepress, and small publishing, so I knew what I was getting into. I also had a series of books that were getting good responses from my betas.
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
I think it’s going to be a wild ride!
