About Koko Joel:
I'm a newbie romance author with a passion for exploring the complexities of relationships, crafting unforgettable tales featuring strong, enigmatic heroes and vulnerable heroines who find strength in unexpected places.
When I'm not creating my next literary masterpiece, I enjoy reading romance novels, watching football and action movies, or listening to music and playing games.
What inspires you to write?
A trope I'd love to read or a setting I'd love to see in a book. Also because writing is an amazing escape reality, that lets me live in a world where anything is possible.
What authors do you read when you aren’t writing?
Natasha Knight is my all time favorite. Like I always look forward to her next release. I think everyone should read her book, Sergio. That book made me cry, real hard.
There's also Danielle Lori and Rina Kent.
Tell us about your writing process.
Generally when I start to write a book, it's based on inspiration either from a trope I'd love to read, or a setting I'd love to see in a book. Next, I'm roped into a conversation with the characters to know who gets to be who, and who does what.
I always have an outline though, so the book can build good.
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
Yes yes, I talk to my characters a lot.
What advice would you give other writers?
Uh, I would say never give up. Writing a book is hard, but getting people to read, love and leave reviews for your book is harder.
So go write that book, make the next one better than the last one, read and research harder on how to write better, and hopefully we all gonna make it.
How did you decide how to publish your books?
I've been writing since I was in primary School, started with bedtime stories. Then I joined Wattpad in high school to share my work with readers. But when I was in my first year in college, I met this girl who encouraged me to put my book up on Amazon. I had zero knowledge on Amazon at the time, and I was scared shitless. I did do it though, but I was waiting for it to flop so I can not do this again 🤣🤣. The love and support I got afterwards from the readers was amazing, so I thought why not?
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
I think the future of book publishing is promising. The advent of film houses and studios like Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Prime, turning bestsellers and Tiktok sensations into movies, gives me hope in the future of book publishing. I mean come to think of it, we never saw this before.
What genres do you write?: Mafia romance, erotic romances
What formats are your books in?: Both eBook and Print
