What inspires you to write?
Ever since I was in middle school, I loved to write. I mainly focused on poetry until I kept having these vivid dreams that played like movies. I would write about them and try to remember the details in some form. Writing has a way of bringing people together so that they can learn through different insights.
What authors do you read when you aren’t writing?
Walter Mosely, Joshua Bennett, Ernest Gaines, Amiri Baraka
Tell us about your writing process.
I usually write a question down in the beginning with “what if…” then create an outline of what I think could possibly happen. I usually create character sketches in the brainstorming phase just to get a feel for what their reactions would be to certain scenarios. Afterwards, the fun part commences.
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
I usually have silent conversations with my characters as I write the story down. Sometimes we have arguments depending on the situation, but it’s usually cordial.
What advice would you give other writers?
Never be afraid to tell your story how you want. The story was in your vision for a reason.
How did you decide how to publish your books?
I have published books through both a publisher and self-published as well. New authors should definitely explore both options before they commit 100% to a particular route. I’ve had fun utilizing publishers and I’ve had the same amount of fun self-publishing my books. Just give both a try.
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
We are in the age where everything is about speed and convenience. It’s becoming tough to entertain as society has become numb to what’s going on. However, there are still readers out there who are hungry for more stories to dive into. So it’s up to us as writers to continue to bring those stories into fruition.
What genres do you write?: Suspense, mystery, fiction, poetry
What formats are your books in?: Both eBook and Print
