Kathryn V. White is a mystical cosmonaut who enjoys adventures in expansion by delving deep, high, and wide as part of her explorations into the many realms of this world and beyond. She enjoys sharing her explorations and what she has learned with others through her art and writings.
Her overall intent is to share writings that are meaningful, playful, healing, and insightful. She likes to weave in spiritual and philosophical themes and alternative perspectives. It gives her great joy when after reading one of her tales, her reader has an “aha!” moment, sees life more positively and clearly, as well as feels inspired and expanded in understanding and awareness.
Readers who love to think about the deeper meanings of life; want to live more authentically and joyfully; are committed to deepening their spiritual understandings; and/or enjoy widening their perspectives will discover a friend in her writings.
If finding stories that are relevant to your life questions and challenges is difficult or you just want to be entertained more heartfully and soulfully than what exists in much of the media, you’ve come to the right place.

What inspires you to write?
Usually a concept that I am interested in exploring more deeply will come to my mind through contemplating my own life journey, reading a book, watching a movie, or taking a class. Sometimes the concept percolates for a while (this can be for years!) before it becomes a story. There are also times when the story comes all at once.
Tell us about your writing process.
It’s varied. I may come across a quote or a spiritual concept I find interesting or a thought comes to me that I journal about to gain clarity. Other times, I may be taking a class or reading a book which inspires me. I have no particular times that are better than others to write. I love using my computer, but many times I start my story in longhand and then type it into my computer for further refinement.
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
My characters and their situations just show up and then I try to be true in my writing to what wants to flow forth.
What advice would you give other writers?
Read, write, and take classes (and keep repeating this). I don’t think you can ever be a “master” at writing, but you can always improve your mastery. There is always something new to learn—so take classes—and they should go beyond writing classes—because learning new things widens your perspective and enriches your life, which ultimately nourishes your writing. Coursera.com is a great place to explore new topics for free!
How did you decide how to publish your books?
I wanted to get my work out into the public more quickly than I could by looking for an agent and publishing house, so I jumped into self-publishing. Also, I learned that the publishing houses expect you to do your own marketing which added to my decision to go with self-publishing. And I like the idea of having more creative control than I possibly would have with a publishing house.
With that said, I remain open to traditional publishing as well. Flexibility is key!
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
It’s changing rapidly, so it’s difficult to say what the future of book publishing will look like. I think the more commercially successful authors will be using a hybrid structure for publishing and marketing their books—doing both self-publishing and traditional publishing. For example, self-publishing allows an author to keep more profits. Yet, a traditional publisher or agent could be very helpful in breaking a book into foreign markets. I also see the more commercially successful authors following the trend of expanding from print and eBooks to audio books, movies, and possibly video-gaming.
