K.A. Poe began writing at a very young age and was often praised for her skills even before middle school. She wrote her first full-length novel in 2008 at the age of nineteen. She specializes in fantasy novels, both modern and mythical. She currently resides in the deserts of Arizona with her husband and daughter. Writing has always been her passion.
When she isn’t occupied with her family and writing, she enjoys playing games such as Skyrim and Sims 3. You might also find her deeply immersed in a book or drawing random doodles.
What inspires you to write?
Random thoughts throughout the day, things I see while out on walks, and even dreams.
Tell us about your writing process.
I’m what they call a ‘seat of the pants’ writer, and I always have been. There was only one time where I wrote out an outline, as it was suggested that I attempt it, and in the end I wound up ignoring the majority of what I had plotted. I let my characters take the lead and essentially write their own stories through my fingertips.
What advice would you give other writers?
Never give up on a story. It may seem difficult at times, and you may want to just scrap it, but you might just have the world’s next bestseller. Write whenever you can, even if it’s only five or ten minutes one day and three hours the next – even getting in just one hundred words a day is better than none at all!
How did you decide how to publish your books?
I toyed with the idea of getting my books traditionally published, but then I discovered the magical world of electronic books. There are so many positive advantages to publishing electronically! You get more royalty and YOU are in complete control of your books.
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
I hope that books will continue to thrive in the paper [and hard] back format, as I will always adore physical books. However, I also know that electronic publishing will also continue to grow.
What genres do you write?
Young adult, paranormal, fantasy
What formats are your books in?
Both eBook and Print
