I caught the “writing bug” when I took a Creative Writing class in the 6th grade. My teacher urged me to send one of my stories to a publisher and that is when I got my first rejection letter!
Writing is a part of my every day life and I always tell my family and friends, “Be careful or you just might end up in one of my books someday!”
What inspires you to write?
EVERYTHING becomes fodder for a writer like me! A simple thought or action and I am “there!”
Tell us about your writing process.
I am an early riser – up between 3-5 A.M. most mornings! I light some nag champa incense, light some candles, pour myself a cup of tea and then I start writing! I work from home so it is easy for me to do. But, even when I was working a 9-5, I always got up early each day and followed the same schedule until I had to leave for the office.
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
What advice would you give other writers?
Set aside “ME TIME” everyday! Even if you can only find 15 minutes in your schedule, write, write, write! Most times those 15 minutes will go on even longer once those creative juices get flowing!
How did you decide how to publish your books?
I’ve researched all avenues in publishing and e-book publishing is on the top of the writing stratosphere! It is “instant gratification” with the click of a button as opposed to waiting for 3-6+ months for a response from a traditional publisher. PLUS, the royalties are far better!
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
E-books are on the rise but traditional publishing houses are also scouting out top e-book sellers to offer them contracts as well. I guess we have to go with the flow of changes….
What genres do you write?
Non-fiction, Memoir, Creative Non-fiction, Children’s books
