About H.P. Davenport:
Paralegal by day, romance genius by night! When she’s not tending to her furry children and her handsome husband, HP DAVENPORT is seamlessly carving beautiful stories from her mind in her comfy PJs in New Jersey.
What inspires you to write?
Many authors that I have read over the years have inspired me. I have spoken with them at great length and they have held my hand through this entire process. Thank you isn’t enough to say to those that have inspired me and help me through this process.
Tell us about your writing process.
I did not have an outline for my debut novel. I did however have a notebook. I would write down scenes has they popped in my head. After my book was written, I went back and did an outline to make sure my time line was accurate.
I printed up pictures of the characters and how I envisioned them. This helped me when describing them in my book and it was a great reference to use.
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
I listen to my characters. I find that I talk to them while in the car driving and listening to music. I find myself jotting down notes on my phone or in my notebook at traffic lights so I don’t forget the scene that may have popped into my head.
What advice would you give other writers?
I am new in the indie community, so I really don;t have much advise to offer. The only thing I can say is, be TRUE to yourself. Do not sell yourself short. Follow your dreams.
How did you decide how to publish your books?
I made the decision to self-publish my book. I think every author has to do what is best for them. For me, self-publishing was the route I wanted to take. I like having complete control over my book.
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
As a reader, I see the book world changing. I see readers focusing only on established authors and not taking a chance on an indie author.
As an author, I have seen how the writing world has changed over the past few years. The market is saturated and it is difficult to make a name for yourself if you are new in the industry.
