About Elena Horas San Martin:
Hi, I’m a Spanish author and translator who has been living in the UK for the past twenty four years. I have always loved writing, since I was a little girl, and only recently I decided it was about time I tried to have something published.
I’ve written many books and short stories for children and at the moment I am self-publishing them with Amazon. I have also finished my first novel and am currently looking for an agent to represent me. I hope you like my stories and come back for more.
What inspires you to write?
I am inspired by beauty, Nature, Art… anything can inspire me: a landscape, the sky, the sea, a face, a book, a memory of something lost…
Tell us about your writing process.
It varies. Some stories are the result of something deep and powerful I feel inside. They are things that have to come out, so to speak. I do not feel much control over them, for they are strong and ungovernable. In other cases I create the stories consciously, in an orderly and methodical way. I am an artisan then and a perfectionist.
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
I just love it when my characters are fully formed and have a life of their own. Then, all I have to do is write quickly what they are dictating me. They have a loud voice and a firm determination to be expressed, and I am nothing but a fast typist.
What advice would you give other writers?
Read as much as you can. And write as much as you can too.
How did you decide how to publish your books?
I read that some authors were self-publishing with Amazon and decided to have a go.
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
It is changing very fast and publishers tend to work from smaller offices with lower costs and more freelance employees. Self-publishing companies on the other hand will grow and get bigger.
