About Darrell Case:
When he is not writing, Darrell is in jail, actually several jails or prisons. And he’s been there for over 30 years. As the co-founder of Souls for Christ, Darrell ministers to serial killers, mass murderers robbers, drug dealers, and other serious lawbreakers. Born in 1945, Darrell grew up on his family’s farm. He spent his summers reading, wandering in the surrounding woods, fishing in the neighbor’s pond and learning to love nature. In high school, he perfected the art of hiding a novel behind a textbook. While the rest of the class labored over equations Darrell sailed the seven seas, followed a snowy trail in the Yukon, climbed the Rockies, swam the Amazon and fought wars in foreign lands. In books he discovered worlds far beyond the hot, boring classroom. At age 49 Darrell put pencil to paper and began recording the stories rumbling around in his head.
What inspires you to write?
I love to read and writing allows me to become lost in my story.
Tell us about your writing process.
I write early of a morning somewhere around 5 to 5:30 I never outline. The characters are formed as the story develops.
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
I love listening to my characters. As time goes on I hear them speaking to each other. Then I become an observer.
What advice would you give other writers?
Make sure the thread of the story flows from page one to the conclusion of the book. Ask yourself does it sing.
Don’t give up. Some of the greatest writers were rejected numerous times.
How did you decide how to publish your books?
I self-publish my books. This allows me to have more control. The downside is I have to do all the marketing. However with the changes in traditional publishing more and more authors are responsible for their own marketing.
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
Self publishing is on the upswing.
It is said by 2020 75% of books will be self published.
What genres do you write?: Christian mystery, thriller
What formats are your books in?: Both eBook and Print, Audiobook
