Dakota Madison has been writing since she learned to read and fell in love with books. When she’s not at her computer creating spicy new romances, Dakota is traveling to exotic locales or spending time with her husband and their bloodhounds.
What inspires you to write?
I’m most inspired by reading books written by wonderful writers and storytellers. I’m also inspired by the people I meet and places I visit.
Tell us about your writing process.
I write every morning and I write very quickly. I’m now in the habit of writing a full length novel every month. I don’t use a formal outline but I do think about the story day and night while I’m writing it and sometimes even dream scenes while I’m sleeping. I don’t begin the editing process until I’ve completed the story and have had a chance to let it sit for a while.
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
Characters often take on lives of their own. I sometimes feel as though I’m merely transcribing what the characters are saying to each other. The scary part is when characters begin to do and say things that I haven’t planned and don’t expect.
What advice would you give other writers?
Write every day and read as much (or more) than you write.
How did you decide how to publish your books?
I now own my own publishing company and publish my own work as well as the work of other authors.
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
The publishing industry is definitely changing every day! More authors are taking control of their own careers and their own destinies rather than relying on big publishing companies to do it for them.
What do you use?
Professional Editor, Professional Cover Designer, and Beta Readers.
What genres do you write?
Romance, Contemporary Romance, and New Adult Romance.
What formats are your books in?
Both eBook and Print.
