What inspires you to write?
I’ve always loved writing. As a kid I had notebooks full of short stories. I knew someday I would write a book. After my first one I was hooked. I just finished my second a couple months ago.
Tell us about your writing process.
Usually I have one scene in my head, or one idea. I get that out and then build around it. I don’t really have a plan or an outline, I just go after the story.
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
Both of my books have female leads. I pretend to be them, or at least I like to think I’d do and say the things they would. Sometimes I have to talk out loud to work through a scene, and sometimes I just have to walk away from the computer and not think about it for awhile.
What advice would you give other writers?
Just start. That can be the hardest thing. Even if you only have a small snippet of a scene or idea in your head, get it out and start!
How did you decide how to publish your books?
I self-published my first book on Amazon and Barnes and Noble. I have been trying to get an agent for my second book, just to see what happens.
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
I think the future of book publishing is all about promotion and marketing. So many people use e-readers now that traditional publishing is sort of a thing of the past. If you can get enough buzz for your book you don’t really need a publisher.
