As B. L. Blair, I write simple and sweet romance stories and an occasional fantasy. Like most authors, I have been writing most of my life and have dozens of books started. I just need the time to finish them! I have recently started working on a mystery/romance novel. This is my first foray into that genre and I am looking forward to seeing how it turns out.
I am the author of the Holton romance series and The Good, a contemporary fantasy novella. I love reading books, writing books, and traveling wherever and as often as time and money allows. I live in Texas with my sisters and my cat, Darcy.
What inspires you to write?
I love to write and have been writing most of my life. Reading good books by other authors inspires me. I enjoy reading and the satisfaction I get when finishing a book is something I like to share with others.
Tell us about your writing process.
My writing process is a combination of outlining and “seat of the pants”. When an idea hits me, I typically just start writing but somewhere along the way I create a basic outline. It is never very detailed – just enough to allow me to see the process through to the end. I do create character sketches early on in the process and I also create a timeline.
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
My characters actually talk to each other and I just eavesdrop. I hear conversations between characters so I guess I listen to my characters. I also review internal dialog conversations that my characters have with themselves.
What advice would you give other writers?
Write, write, and write some more. This is the hardest thing for me but I force myself to write at least a little bit everyday. I would also advise any aspiring writers to not get caught up in a “right” way to do things. Follow your own path.
How did you decide how to publish your books?
I had been reading a lot about self-publishing and when I explored that option with Amazon, I realized it was a very easy process. I wanted to see if there was any interest in my writing style and decided that self-publishing was the way to go.
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
I believe ebooks are the future of book publishing and that self-publishing will continue to grow. There are a lot of authors who just don’t fit the traditional book-publishing model.
What genres do you write?
What formats are your books in?
Both eBook and Print
