About Ann M Pratley:
Ann M Pratley has a great passion for words and writing of all kinds. She particularly enjoys writing fiction, letting the characters evolve and become people who seem real. All characters that have been developed by Ann in the writing of her books, have come to feel like good friends, and people she would love to actually meet.
A lover of reading, she enjoys all genres and tries to fit reading into her day as much as possible!
What inspires you to write?
I find that some days my mind wanders off into foreign worlds that are not my reality. In those worlds I can visualise people – people I want to meet! As I cannot meet them, I create them, and write about them. Over time, it feels like they become friends.
Tell us about your writing process.
I write how I think. When I am writing my stories it literally feels like I am telling them with words to a friend.
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
I don’t listen or talk to my characters, as such. To me it feels like I am watching them from the sidelines, full of curiosity about where they are going to lead me.
What advice would you give other writers?
Just write. Do it because you love it.
How did you decide how to publish your books?
I self-publish all my books, primarily through Amazon although I am venturing further afield to other e-retailers now. There is an aspect of fear of rejection in submitting books to publishers for consideration – self-publishing is quicker and I know for sure that my books get published!
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
I think allowing people to self-publish is a good thing, so long as there continue to be in place the realm where readers can be honest in reviewing. Not so much in the storylines, but the level of professionalism in things such as simple grammar and spelling.
