How is Writing In Your Genre Different from Others?
My writing is different simply because it’s about a part of the world where there is practically no contemporary fictional literature. That part of the world is Barbados in the Caribbean and is only recently being noticed because of pop superstar Rihanna. The readers are exposed to a place and people they don’t normally see, but written in a style that they can still easily relate to.
What Advice Would You Give Aspiring Writers?
Start writing, then keep writing and continue to work at your craft. Don’t get discouraged there are people waiting to read your stories.
About the author- Sean Russell is Jamaican born, grew up in Barbados . Wrote and produced the film ‘The Kite Flyer’ which copped the Festival Pick in the 2007 Bridgetown Film Festival and remains popular among viewers to this day. “Guilty! The Trials of Phil Ferguson” is his first novel and currently working on his soon to be released second novel “Revenge! The Return of Jimmy Cadogan”(the sequel to Guilty!).
What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
I had written and produced a feature film called the Kite Flyer which was awarded The Festival Pick at the 2007 Bridgetown Film Festival . I was challenged by the lack of channels to distribute the film to a wider audience. This is less the cause with ebooks and they are much cheaper to produce so I decided to write “Guilty!” Furthermore I think there is an untapped audience that would enjoy the stories written from our perspective and sharing the culture from our part of the world.
