Most people learn to write comedy through trial and error, an intuitive process that can take years to develop. But what most people don’t know is that formulas and techniques exist which can cut that process down to about a month. Whether you’re a novelist, essayist, blogger, journalist, speechwriter, ghostwriter, or advertiser, if you’re looking for ways to integrate more humor into your writing, this book is for you.
In two short volumes, we’ll cover over two dozen comedy-writing techniques and formulas, including:
– The Algebra of Humor
– The Listing Technique
– The Mind Mapping Method
– Spoonerisms and Malapropisms
– The Backdown Formula
– The Truth and Observation Formulas
– The Smashing Assumptions Formula
– The Roast Technique
– The Clash of Context Formula
– The Switch and Reverse Formulas
And many more. So what are you waiting for?

What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
Many years ago, I took a class which promised to teach joke writing formulas, one new formula per class session. After five class sessions, it just started repeating the previous ones. The instructor apparently knew a total of five such techniques. I knew there were more, so I spent a decade finding and testing them.
Comedic irony works best when it’s built into the characters, like a guy who means well but knows little, or someone suffering from a crippling case of Dunning-Kruger effect. But my personal favorite is the one I’ve taken to calling Schrödinger's Butt. You’re probably already familiar with Schrödinger's Douchebag, where a character says demeaning things which they really mean until/unless someone complains, at which point they suddenly insist it was all just a joke. Well, Schrödinger's Butt is when the butt of the demeaning statements-turned-jokes flips the joke back on them. The Paul Finch character in “American Pie,” the one who sleeps with Stiffler’s mom, is an example of this.
