What inspired you to write your memoir?
I had the blessing / curse of going through a lot of misfortune in my younger years. When I failed to break, I found I was a lot stronger. And I did my healing in the most unusual environment: the spectacular Garden of Crazy that is the floral industry.
About your Book:
Fresh Cut is the story of “Eve,” a wild and destructive young woman with a dark past who finds unexpected solace in the colorful world of the floral industry. Based on the author’s own professional and personal experiences, the narrative can be disturbing and brutal but also surprisingly funny.
Eve wends her way through a nightmare of self-doubt and self-harm as she struggles with recovery from sexual abuse, dabbles in drugs and promiscuity and tries to find her purpose in life. She meets an amazing cast of characters in flower shops across the country: as she learns to find compassion for the struggles of others she begins to break out of her own dissociation. By the end of the journey Eve has found herself in a place of peace and vulnerability, with perhaps just a tiny glimmer of hope beginning to shine through.
Not a book for the squeamish or the faint of heart. Eve’s tale is macabre, twisted, wry, sexy, and very raw. (Contains some profanity, violence and sexuality).
How did you decide how to publish your book and where is it published through:
I self-published my book on Amazon Kindle after getting disillusioned with the agent-hunting process. After much clean-up and refinement, I now have a print version coming out as well that will be available through Amazon and other venues.
How do you see writing a Memoir as different from writing other genres of books?
I think Memoir writing is much, much harder than fiction. You have to put yourself outside of your own story and make sure you’re crafting a good book, not just spilling your guts.
Author Bio:
“Eve A. Floriste” decided to write her book when people hounded her for tales of her crazy floral industry experiences. Never one for restraint, her stories are honest, descriptive and often shocking. She’s returning to writing after a long absence, having won praise and awards as a young woman and teen but then deciding that writing was too sedate for her. Now that she’s older, sedate is looking just fine. She lives in Southern California with her dashing Russian-Persian husband and their adorable cultural-mongrel baby.
