What inspired you to write your memoir?
I have always been a writer, but never had anything to say. After going through a difficult life transition, it became clear that I was finally ready to write. The blessing of that challenging time was that it helped me to bloom as a writer.
About your Book:
After losing her center, her marriage, and her future in one stroke, Gwen Van Velsor set off to find a new path. She traveled across the United States before finding her way to the Camino de Santiago, a journey that would redefine her life. Her story is a reflection on love, faith and the food that got her here from there.
How did you decide how to publish your book and where is it published through:
I started my own publishing company called Yellow Arrow Publishing, so in a way this book is self-published. After getting to know a successful self-published author in Colorado, I was convinced that getting my book out into the world sooner rather than later was the way to go.
How do you see writing a Memoir as different from writing other genres of books?
For me, memoir is how I approach the craft in the absolute most honest way possible. Honesty in art is a must.
Gwen is an award-winning food blogger who holds degrees in sociology from Southern Oregon University and special education from the University of Hawaii at Manoa. She has been writing for GourmetGwen.com since 2009 and while she loves cooking, she loves writing about food and life even more. She adores backpacking, hiking, and finding solitude in nature. A cozy row house with her husband and daughter in Baltimore, Maryland is her current home.
