What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
I have lived in both Spain and South Africa. Both countries have majestic mountains and having hiked in both I felt that meeting one's love in such a wonderful setting was entirely possible. As I walk I think about how two people could meet each other and if they allow themselves to overcome their fears, how they can let nature work its magic and bring them together.
How Did You Come up With Your Characters?
I based the nationalities of my characters on people I know well, so that the culture, language and various issues used by each character is genuine. As I write the characters then define themselves and develop more individualistic personalities.
Feeling alarmed she excused herself to the group, leaving a strict instruction that they wait for her and not wonder off until she returned. The tourists peered after her, a hum of excitement running through the group as they realized that Lauren was off to help the figure below. One man shouted after her at the top of his voice, “Do you need some help? She might be crazy.” His voice obviously carried as the figure below suddenly looked up. Lauren was not that far from her and she could see annoyance on the woman’s face. “I am not crazy,” a lightly South African accented voice shouted, “You crazy loon yourself,” the voice continued, softer though, so that only Lauren heard it as she neared. Lauren hid a smile. The woman was obviously quite feisty and definitely not suicidal. As she neared, the woman looked at her. Lauren felt a tingle run through her. The woman was slightly shorter than her, with short, brown hair, curling in an elfin style around her face. Her eyes were large and deep blue and almost glaring at her indignantly. The yellow vest top framed narrow, sun burnt shoulders and her long legs in small shorts were scratched by the bushes she had obviously pushed through. “I am not crazy,” she said in a fierce tone before Lauren could say a word. “I think your…your…boyfriend… is very rude.”
