In a crumbling carcass of a city, a girl without memories joins a soldier with way too many in a desperate bid to survive the night. But there’s a secret she can’t tell him, a secret she can’t let herself know.…
The apocalypse arrived in a form nobody expected. Silent. Alien. Deadly. Apex predators designed to hunt down and possess have emerged from the pained earth to eliminate everything human. With no declaration, no conditions, no chance for surrender, a total war on the human race has begun and millions of casualties have dyed the world bloody red. We never stood a chance. Not against them.
With all sources of water poisoned, a biological weapon released to cleanse the streets, and acid rain streaking from the sky, what chance do a pair of refugees stand against hordes of tireless invaders who came for the thing most precious––human minds to destroy and able bodies to reap?
The world has gone mad, and from its twisting insides, the horsemen of the apocalypse came crawling with the screeching song of a wicked cicada. But there was one thing they underestimated: the unbreakable will of two humans stubbornly refusing to curl up and die.

What Advice Would You Give Aspiring Writers?
Keep writing. The work never ends, but it is worth it. 🙂
L.C. Candar lives in a hundred years old house located in the very center of Prague, the beautiful ancient capital of the Czech Republic, that she shares with her husband (the big bad wolf), four goldfish, two newts (called Mr. Tasty and Mr. Juicy) and a huge dieffenbachia plant. Throw in some moths lured in by the light of her late night writing and you have a zoo. Or an asylum. Possibly both, which makes it a cozy, merry place.
Published since 2002 in the Czech Republic, with over 30 works published in print under her belt, she writes mainly fantasy, sci-fi and supernatural stories ranging from a variety of genres from horrors to romance. She is well known for her strong characters and fast-paced stories.
L.C. Candar decided to start writing in English and became a full time novelist after she was repeatedly told that it would be utterly impossible for a “small Czech writer” like herself. Let’s say, she generally likes to prove people wrong and usually succeeds at doing so.
When she doesn’t write her own novels, she makes her living as a professional copywriter and ghost writer in both the Czech and English language. That said, she spends much more time on novels than toilet paper sale leaflets these days, which makes her very happy.
What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
This book is based on an award winning story I wrote in Czech language in 2003. I started translating the original story and then realized, that the story was no good enough, that my writing skills have evolved beyond it’s frame. In the end, I kept only the main premise and the setting. Some characters refused to die, some characters sprung into existence to fill the empty spaces in the original world’s setting to make it a much better story to tell. So, here you go. It’s up to you to judge now.
