What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
I wanted to write a fantasy book for my daughter where a young person is able to overcome obstacles due to their perseverance and belief in themselves. I was inspired by the Chronicles of Prydain where Taran grows from book to book as he learns and overcomes.
How Did You Come up With Your Characters?
My main character Ethaze was inspired by Lucy in the Chronicles of Narnia and Taran in the Chronicles of Prydain. I enjoy watching characters grow and learn. I wanted characters that were strong but vulnerable.
Her eyes darted to her necklace which lay across the room. The necklace she had never taken off. Perhaps it kept her safe from the Fae but at the same time had blocked any attempts that her mother may have made to communicate with her. Maybe it was all linked.
The apparition had told her that only she could free her, none other. Surely there was no coincidence that her mother spoke of locks, while holding keys, and Ethaze’s silver necklace had a key on it? A key made to fit no lock.
Ethaze was confused but what she did know for certain was that she had an opportunity to change things. She had a chance to make things right and reclaim what was left of her childhood. If she wanted to find her mother she would have to leave her father and her home behind and head off into the world. The apparition had said she must leave alone. It would not have warned of that if it were not important. And that would mean her father coming would doom the quest from the start.
