What inspired you to write your book?
When our niece died of an eating disorder, my husband was devastated. Our dog understood his despair and literally would not leave his side for days. He followed him to the bathroom, tried to follow his truck and laid down against him, all the while looking steadily into my husband’s eyes. It was very powerful and moving to me.
I try to capture the connection between humans and dogs in my stories.
About your Book:
These sixteen true stories about dogs will warm the hearts of dog lovers and grinches alike. Some will bring a smile to your lips, others may bring a tear to your eye, but all will bring you to a closer appreciation of man’s best friend. Perhaps you will recognize some of the dogs you have loved as you read about the pain of losing a faithful pet, or laugh about the absurdity of dressing a little dog in a corduroy coat. From the dog blinded by an acid-throwing neighbor, to the abandoned hound that made a family whole, these stories are about the importance of dogs in the emotional lives of humans.

How do you see writing a book in the Pet Genre as different from writing other genres of books?
As non-fiction essays, my stories are different than fiction because they are all true. I really did tell my sister my dog needed to get braces, and she actually believed me! But my take on the experiences I have with my dogs vary, just as everyone’s do.
Advice to someone that is thinking about or currently working on a pet book
Just go ahead and do it! I think the relationships between humans and animals is a very special one, and that exploration is both interesting and important. And every human will have a different take on it, so I encourage all authors to share!
How did you decide how to publish your book and where is it published through:
I am self-publishing Dogs and Love through Kindle Select and am happy with that decision. It was immediate, and I’m enjoying the process of promotion. And learning a ton!
