How is Writing In Your Genre Different from Others?
You need beautiful and colorful illustrations and simple text that keeps your readers attention. Writing in rhyme provides rhythm to the story which makes it much more enjoyable for little ones to read.
You also need to keep the stories fairly short as children are not able to foucus for long periods at a time.
Humor is also an added element that will keep the reader engaged and entertained.
What Advice Would You Give Aspiring Writers?
Keep a notebook handy and write down your ideas as they come to you. I never sit down and purposely try to write a story. I just continually write down my ideas as they come to me. then when I have enough, I start a story.
Continually read other author’s book and study the bestseller’s books. Get your book published!
Kally Mayer is the oldest of 7 children and has always loved writing and poetry. She recalls her mother being concerned that she read so much that she never came out of her room.
Working as a Youth worker with special needs children Kally has been around children her whole life. She really enjoys entertaining them with her silly rhymes and made up stories.
Kally has 3 children and two grandchildren which has inspired her to publish books for younger children.
Kally believes that literacy is an important indicator of the success of your child and entertaining them while reading is key. Gone are the days of Dick and Jane. The more fun you and your child have, the more you will hook them into reading!
What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
I created an adorable character called The Little Monster and placed him in real life situations that children will face. I remember my son holding onto to my leg in his first gymnastics class. He wouldn’t let go for the whole class!
This book teaches children that it is okay to be nervous to try something new,but if you give it a chance you will usually end up succeeding and enjoying it!
