My cover designer, Ratna Kusuma Halim, was also the illustrator for my children’s book, “Three Little Gnomes and a Boy Named Orion.” Although Ratna lives in Indonesia and I live in the United States, we worked very closely together over the internet. Ratna told me the story that while she was thinking about the cover art, we met together several times during her dreams! I believe we did that! During the entire process of working together, I felt that Ratna was looking out my eyes, into my gardens, and into my imagination. She is truly a gifted artist and I am so grateful for her talents and artistic skills. Her style fit this little story perfectly!

especially my boy (5yo) will directly notice the picture of Orion who is playing a car-toy, because he love cars so much..

The cover makes me currious to read the story. I like the colour.. soft but nice. I love each expression of thè characters… it’s very life. I know exactly that Ratna is very experts make those expressions.

The illustration’s style that shows the whimsy and magic hidden within the real world draws me in. I can sense that Orion is in for great surprises and adventures. Also ((love)) a cover featuring a young boy …. great way for enticing more boys to read. Finally, as a gardener, I appreciate those tiny details, like the dragonfly and ladybug…nature’s subtle reflections.

The boy in the story, Orion, helps the gnomes solve a big problem for them – so problem and solution and asking for help are two elements that are addressed in the story. Such a darling cover! You can just get a sense of mischief and adventure coming in the story. And how cute is Orion? A typical toddler playing with his truck and oblivious to all else.
