Comments about cover design
I chose a scene from the book that would grab the reader’s imagination and get them asking questions about what could be happening in the scene. Together with Ash we designed a stunning cover.
Thank you everyone I’m delighted to have won!
Great cover. It tells the story. Blue colors are also my favorites.
I agree with the first comment. Excellent cover, but if you make th stark white in the left han a light blue and lighter the space just over the man’s head, I think it would be perfect.
I love the cover but I would like to see more focus on the face of the dragon. My eye went to the area underneath the dragon’s head so I thought I was looking at a monster’s face. Try to get the eye to see the face first. That being said, I love the colors and the bit of fire and the boy frozen in place. Good luck.
Gorgeous, enthralling, and intriguing cover! Beautiful art and the David & Goliet drama illustrated draws the reader in. Electrifying cover!
Jacqueline thanks for the great comments. It is a true David and Goliath moment from book 2.
This cover is stunning. The art is eye-catching and immediately gains the attention. There is much going on, but the cover doesn’t look “busy”, it looks thrilling, and action-packed, making me want to read the book. THIS is what a great cover should do!
Thank you so much for the comments Michelle. In case anyone is wondering the artist can be contacted through Ash-xd@live.com
Beautiful cover. I love the way the dragon has an almost 3d effect on the eye. It is like looking at a scene in a movie. Awesome Job! Beautiful art job.
Thanks Juneta, I really appreciate people taking the time to leave comments and always try and respond to them individually. Glad you like it.
The contrast of the light behind the dragon and the fire below is nice and I’m assuming they are in a cave? The light must be a way out. I like that it made me ponder that.. I’m thinking maybe the dragon should have some irridescence to it, especially with the flames right there. Kind of like a reflection off it’s scales.
Very nicely done and I’d enjoy your story. One of my all time favorite series is The Dragonriders of Pern so I’m partial to dragons.
Thanks for the comments Laura, I appreciate it.
The colors are indeed striking and would sweep from bookshelves to buyers. The boy looks seems so young, looking at him from the back. Is he?
Yes he is young, he is one of the main characters in the book. Glad that comes across even from the back.
I have a thing for dragons and I love the detail of your cover. The colors play well off each other.
Stacey thanks for the comments, Ash did an amazing job.
I am a fond of anything blue. What I like most is the red of the fire and white reflection above the dragon’s head, forced me to focus on the center of your beautifully designed and very attractive cover. It makes me want to read the book. Congrats! Beautiful, just beautiful.
Hi Dean thanks for the comment. Ash really got the intention if my cover brief perfectly.
An amazing cover. As previously stated your eyes are drawn to the boys hands on the cover, and curiosity takes over. Its an amazing covet for an amazing read. Well done Kevin.
Sorry should say cover
Thank you for the comment, I’m glad you like it.
What I like about this cover is that your eye is immediately drawn to the fire, then the creature is almost jumping out the page as a secondary element. Almost like it catches you off guard. It also sparks curiosity. What is the person holding? It is fire, ice, electricity, or something entirely different?
Thanks for that, glad you liked the cover. I’m pleased it grabs people’s imagination and gets them thinking about what it could be.
I LOVE this cover. It’s very atmospheric and makes the reader want to start reading to find out what’s happening. An exciting cover for a thrilling, fast-paced book. Well done to Ash and Kevin for the inspiration and execution. Brilliant!
Margaret, thank you so much for the kind words. I’m glad you liked it.
I love the contrast between the heat of the fire and the coldness of the rest of the scene. I think it really draws your eye in for a closer look.
Thanks Karen, I appreciate that. Was so proud of every cover, but this one blows me away.
Love the cover. It really sells the book.
Thanks Nikki, I love this cover. It won the AuthorDB cover contest earlier in the year. The artist Ash is simply amazing at what he does.

This is a nice piece of art, and I bet it looks great in print. In eBook format, I think the image is going to become muddy as it gets smaller. When you’re on the “also-bought” ribbon on Amazon, the dragon and even the boy are going to fade into the background. Also, you use a lot of blue, which is a cooler color that doesn’t motivate potential buyers to look at it as well as warmer tones do.
John thanks for the comments, have a look at the ebook cover on Amazon or any other site, it looks fantastic. The use of several layers of blue make the cover stand out. When myself and Ash design a cover we always think of the thumbnail imprint on Amazon. The cover won the AuthorDB cover contest and the book reached number 1 in it’s genre on Amazon in the UK and US.
