My Paperback Cape: The Unlikely Odyssey of a Bookworm by Lynn Rankin-Esquer

My Paperback Cape: The Unlikely Odyssey of a Bookworm

Cover Designer: Kristin Abbott

Comments about cover design
The illustrator Kristin Abbott completely captures the way that the protagonist of the novel, Jacqueline, takes on the personality characteristics of her favorite book characters in order to grow herself into a hero. The cape shows the superhero feeling Jacqueline has developed through reading, and you can see the words of pages of books on her cape as well as the books she reads behind her.

Interesting cover, especially for a life-long bookworm who got totally caught up in the pages of a book Often. Still do.

Fantastic cover for an incredible wonderful daughter’s book. Lynn has been creative since she came out of the womb. This is a girl who has never brought me anything but joy since the day she was born. The cover is great. May you win. Love, Mom

I like that this cover doesn’t have that “hyper-realistic” look. Being a bookworm myself, that cape of pages drew me eye and made me wonder what kind of super-heroine the main character would be.

I like this cover because it’s promoting reading in a cool-looking way. Plus I like books that are about books. :p

I am the author of this book and when Kristin Abbott offered to do my cover I was ecstatic. She is an amazing (and experienced!) illustrator and she perfectly captured my character, down to all the details that show up in the book (like a meaningful bracelet, her haircut, etc.). I love the background, I love how she rendered Jackie in all her new-hero-bookworm glory, I love the colors, I just love it all.

This is super hip and modern and would definitely appeal to parents and young adults alike. I love all the meaning in all of the details – cape, bracelets, haircut, and the strong look in her eyes!!!

Ths cover is appealing because I feel I can relate being a voracious reader. It also makes me feel that you are a hero if you read books.

I like this cover. I disagree with using Times New Roman (as earlier posted commented) – I find that a super common text almost always screams “unprofessional”.

I think the title should be in Times New Roman or Palatino Linotypr, to reflect the “Paperback” aspect. Paperbacks are rarely written in cursivish/script styled fonts.

I like this cover. As a middle-aged woman, this catches my attention, and if I were a young person, I would pull this off the shelf to read.

    Good job!
