Karda: Adalta Vol. I
Cover Designer: Kurt Nilson
Comments about cover design
The cover was done by my son, Kurt Nilson, who drew the image first on a very large sheet of paper. We worked for ages on fonts and styles, etc, but he really gets all the credit. Kurt is an artist who lives in Brazil now. His imagination is off the charts.

This beautiful cover makes me want to jump on and fly into adventure land.
Amazing cover! It’s not computer generated. It is a real work of art that helps bring the book to life!
Great Cover! I had the chance to see the work in progress, and saw the drawing evolve to this amazing Book cover.
Kurt is deeply talented and deserves the prize!

Beautiful cover!
I love how this cover tells you what the story of the book is, without opening a page. And then to see a beautiful piece of art is such a bonus.
Truly feel this cover should win the cover contest due to all the time, energy, and supreme artist flair. It grabs one’s eyes above the others.
Beautiful cover. It gives life to the main characters in the story.

Great cover! I vote for this one.
This cover is the one! It represents the story SO well!!
I really hope this cover wins. It is too beautiful not to.
Love how the cover depicts the girl fleeing the scene in a hurry. It says so much about all the action one will find in the book.
Beautiful cover for a wonderful book!!
Wonderfuk drawing! This cover should win by far. Colors and details are amazing. Good luck!
I love all the detail and shading of cover. Just makes me want to see more of the artist’s work. Maybe I will with Volume 2. 🙂
I love all the details and shadowing put in this cover. Makes me want to see more of his work. Maybe I will get my wish when Volume 2 comes out. 🙂
The cover of this book is truly amazing! The detail that went into the cover speaks for itself. From the font to Karda flying through the air makes you want to start reading the book immediately!
Great Image! Lots of movement, and a little glimpse of story? …and anatomically detailed fantasy beings? Yep!!!
The detail in this cover is amazing. This book cover deserves to win.
Great cover!!!!
Mr. Nilson has done an excellent job of capturing the details of the layers of feathers in a bird’s underwing. This picture only shows the front cover. The drawing actually wraps around to the back cover showing the right wing. It might be worth buying the book just see the entire griffin!
I love this cover! It makes me want to read the book 🙂 congrats
So gorgeous!
I hope this cover wins – it should!
Nice going everyone and thanks.
This cover is beautiful and gives the reader the most intriguing invite for a wonderful, mystical story!
This cover invites you to open the book to see what this axing creature is. Beautiful art work.
Love, love this cover!
It is sitting on my nightstand right now!
This is actually a hippogriff. And so much better looking than the ones in the Harry Potter movies, don’t you think? I am having the original framed (and it is really big. Have to find a big place to hang it.)
Perfect picture of a Karda.
This cover is stunningly evocative. The image of the Karda is elegant and powerful.
Kurt is an amazing artist!
Fantastic artistry!
Still love this one the best!
This cover is amazing. So beautiful. Good luck on the contest. I think you should win.

This is a fantastic cover. I especially love that your son created it.
It’s a beautiful work of Art. The detail is amazing and gives such a great idea of the characters while reading.
Love the detail in the muscle definition. It’s just amazing the talent involved in the cover and the story.
Thanks to everyone who posted here. Keep on do in’ it.
Very nicely done. The soft tones combined with the nice detail makes the Karda really feel free to roam the skies. A very nice read also.
This cover makes me want my own Karda–I’ve always wanted my own flying horse! And the story is great, too!
I love this cover. It absolutely makes me want to pick it up and read, which I plan to do now! Stunning artwork.
This cover is gorgeous. Really evokes the thrill of soaring through the air on this magnificent Karda.
Astonishing. Just simply incredibly. The beautiful hand drawn Karda Is breathtaking, This particular cover popped out from the rest to me, It completely intrigued me to read the book and become intertwined in the plot and story of Adalta. Is there some place where I can buy karda T-Shirts?
Absolutely stunning depiction of this fantasy creature! The character descriptions in the book are terrific, but without the cover, I could
have never envisioned the beautiful Karda. The cover illustration completely enriched my reading experience!
Beautiful! A perfect picture of the author’s descriptive abilities. The cover is clean, crisp and uncluttered. It sets the stage for the world of Adalta created by Ms. Nilson. I am intrigued by the combined creative talents of both Sherrill Nilson and her son, Kurt Nilson.
It’s a perfect depiction of a wonderful adventure!
I love the cover and wish I could have a Karda of my own.
I love this cover! It does such a great job of bringing these amazing creatures to life!
I love Kurt’s artwork. Makes me want a Karda of my own, of course! Can’t wait to see what the new cover will be.
The detail work on the drawing is amazing and it really brings the Karda to life. I really like the color combination of sepia and the blue/purple background. The feather between the author’s first and last name is also a very charming detail. A beautiful cover indeed!
The cover took me a while to illustrate. Working with my mom I tried to stay true to what she envisioned the Karda to be. I drew it out on a large piece of paper so I could have a lot of fun with the detail. It is a wonderful read and I am honored to have my drawing on the cover.
Great cover! Wouldn’t it be great to be the person riding and sailing through the air? The artist did a fantastic job with the minute details and brings life to the image.
Read the book before I saw the cover and Kurt did an amazing job of capturing my vision of the Karda!
The detail in the wings are beautiful. Love this cover – not too busy, but rich and gives us images from the book. Nice work
I think the detail is astonishing and I loved having this image of a Karda when I read the book. I could never have imagined on my own anything so grand as the image the illustrator produced.
