What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
I wanted to give Complicated Creatures Part One readers new insights into the action from Part One from a different perspective while further developing the peripheral characters. And, it gave everyone something to do while waiting for me to finish Complicated Creatures Part Two.
How Did You Come up With Your Characters?
These characters were introduced in Complicated Creatures Part One, but like all of my characters, they began to take on a life of their own.
“I’ve dated a lot of women,” Jack began, flipping over his cards one by one. “But I’ve only ever had eyes for one queen,” he said as everyone got an eyeful of his four of a kind… queens. Jack stared Sam down with an apex predatory look of pleasure, waiting patiently for her to succumb.
“You sure know how to invite trouble, Jack,” she murmured languidly.
“Yours is the only kind of trouble I enjoy, tesoro,” he replied, eyes warm. “What do you think of my ladies?”
“They’re lovely,” she remarked. “But they’re no match for the likes of my men.”
And with that, Rush looked down at her hand.
Aces full of kings.
“Holy shit!” Talon exclaimed, eyes wide as Mitch blew out a stunned breath beside him.
Jack stared at her hand, his jaw working in disbelief as Carey belted out a laugh. Sam stood casually, downing the rest of her bourbon.
“I take cash, check or cash,” she told him as she set her glass down.
Jack shook his head as if to clear it, while Mitch patted his shoulder in commiseration.
