What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
My love for family inspired me. How far would I go for the people I love? That question is a constant theme throughout the story.
How Did You Come up With Your Characters?
I created an idea while sitting beside the river at whetstone park in NY with my wife. It involved a former made man now living homeless and he is forced to watch his family from a distance bc if the wrong people found out he was alive it would put them in danger. Well, the backstories to all the supporting characters that I created was so well rounded and interesting to me, I decided to tell that same story, but only start at the very beginning. So eventually, that idea of the homeless former made man will be something you read about, but by then you will have spent all this time in that world getting to know all these wonderful characters.
Alfonso sat down in the chair on his side of the window. Across from Alfonso was an older man. Bearded with more grey than black in his hair. Alfonso lifted his phone and the other man did as well.
"Hello, Alfonso. I'm Michael Desantis."
"I guess I should thank you for the protection. So, uh, thanks. I don't really know what I did to deserve it, though."
" You've connected with Angelo then? All is well with him?"
" Sure. Yeah, he's good."
Angelo's my son-in-law. I want you to know this, so you know just how serious I am with what I'm about to tell you."
Michael Desantis was an old man now. But his demeanor carried a kind of youthful strength. His combed hair was gray now with hints of black. But as old as he was, he didn't look frail. Michael Desantis looked powerful. His shoulders were wide set, and his eyes had the vitality of a much younger man.
"When you were a baby, your birth mother, my wife, gave you away to a woman in Cold Harbor City. Her name was Maria Machetti."
" My birth mother was your wife?"
" She is my wife. " Michael corrected him.
"So, that makes you my father, then. " Alfonso said.
" No. In another life, I would have been your stepfather. You were born through infidelity between your mother and… another man."
"Huh." Alfonso said. " I've always wondered. Look, what, or better yet, how does any of this got anything to do with me? Now?"
" Your mother is dying. She has been, for a long time. Alzheimer's."
