Driven, cool-headed and climbing the career ladder to the top of his field, Jake Marshall wants a coveted position on the busiest orbital in the Prime star system. He’s well on his way along with his gorgeous girlfriend, Tey, who can match his skill in the control room.
Yet things aren’t always as they seem. His best friend Sam can’t quite articulate the troubles everyone but Jake sees coming and Tey is sending her own signals about the future. Despite attempts to warn him about crossing the wrong people, Jake still can’t see past the blue dots on his scope.
In the aftermath, a woman in a far-flung system on the edge of explored space steps into Jake’s life. Keeva Burke infuriates Jake the minute he meets her, yet she commands space traffic like no other… and he can’t stop thinking about her. But while Jake still dreams of reaching Prime, Keeva doesn’t seem to have a care in the galaxy. Their nights together may be destined but their future depends on Jake seeing the signs right in front of him. Keeva is not at all who Jake thinks she is.

What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
What's a scifi author to do when his real-world interest in air traffic control and his desire to write a romance story happen to collide in his dreams one night? Chasing Blue Dots is the result! The book is set in my "This Corner of the Universe" galaxy, which spans over 100 named star systems. The nice thing about building your own worlds is that there is plenty of room to tell the next tale. Jake and Keeva's story is about chasing dreams, but also about realizing what's important in life.
How Did You Come up With Your Characters?
The characters in Chasing Blue Dots are essentially air traffic controllers in space. Readers will find their co-worker dynamics pretty relatable I think, typical folks getting the job done and the relationships formed along the way. Love, ambition, in-office pranks, complaining about the boss… just in a scifi setting. Everyone's experienced aspects of these characters in the offices they've worked in. Of course, living and working in space offers a few surprises, and a few dangers.
Laughter and smiles fill our dances. I lose count of the songs. Halfway through the night, each dance ends with a kiss even though we stay right out on the floor for the next one. Our kisses begin modestly but the passion increases after every song. Our bodies, formerly a respectable distance apart now mold heatedly together. The press of her against me, the slick smooth feel of her bare lower back beneath my hand, the aroma of her desert lily perfume all combine into an intoxicant far more potent than alcohol. It’s impossible not to lose myself to it. We are each other’s universes, if only for the night.
By the last dance, we’re both panting. A sheen of sweat covers us and her firm press against my body can leave her little doubt of my arousal. My hand has abandoned the sanctuary of her back to travel down over her jeans and soft throaty moans in my ear encourage exploration.
“Let’s go home,” she says between rasping breaths. Her pupils are so wide they leave little more visible than the dark blue ring encircling her irises.
We’re in the Ute minutes later and racing through the sky. There’s actual traffic over Karoo tonight and I resist the temptation to touch her because once I start up again, I’m not sure I’ll be able to stop. I’m electrified and terrified. I’m going to give this woman my body, heart included. With Keeva, I cannot disconnect the two. I know eventually both will be returned to sender and I swallow the lump in my throat. When will that happen? Tomorrow morning? Next week? Next year? What’s the difference? It’s inevitable and the longer she holds them the worse the end will feel. I squeeze my eyes shut and tell myself to enjoy the time we have. Keeva is amazing. Even a single night with her is worth my own personal destruction. I sit, burning, in the passenger’s seat and devour every detail of the woman beside me.
