A New Kind of Gatekeeper?
I've been involved in indie book promoting for a couple of years now and I'm becoming alarmed at a new trend. There are suddenly a number of sites that either used to be indie friendly or were indie friendly until their sites got "legs" and all of a sudden there are restrictions on what books they will promote or you have to almost win the lottery to get listed in their newsletter or posted on their site. Now since this is their business model we have to accept it. Or do we? As an indie … [Read more...] about A New Kind of Gatekeeper?
Do Readers “Owe” Writers a Review?
I've been watching a very disturbing trend among indie authors that is going to, if it hasn't already, gives indie a bad taste. Authors have been blogging and posting to social media with posts that indicate they think that readers owe it to authors to leave a review on their books. This smacks of disrespect for the readers and is looking very unprofessional. I've seen posts that range from "readers should appreciate all the time it took so should leave a review" to "karma will get you if you … [Read more...] about Do Readers “Owe” Writers a Review?
Some Thoughts About Book Covers
Your cover represents your book on Amazon, Smashwords, B&N or where ever else you are selling it. It is almost always shown in thumbnail size. If you are paying to advertise your book on websites like Awesome Gang or BookGoodies, your cover is your ad. If you have sold the book and it is sitting on someone's Kindle or other device waiting to be read, your cover is what will make them want to read and possibly review your book. You have to make sure your cover looks good at thumbnail size, … [Read more...] about Some Thoughts About Book Covers

Non-fiction – Photo Books #ArmchairBEA
Armchair BEA genre discussion is about non-fiction, which is what most of my books are :) Non-fiction books are a very broad category, ranging from autobiographies and biographies to historical figures or events to even travel books. I actually create books that take non-fiction another step, photography books. While some can be categorized as "travel", many of my books are about nature, flowers, and butterflies, to name a few. Some have very little text, like my new series of "Take a … [Read more...] about Non-fiction – Photo Books #ArmchairBEA
All About Deborah Carney and BookGoodies – Intro for #armchairbea
Please tell us a little bit about yourself: Who are you? How long have you been blogging? Why did you get into blogging? My name is Deborah Carney and I have been on the internet since 1980. There wasn't blogging back then, or even the World Wide Web. There was just text on a green screen, no pretty pictures. I worked at a University and learned early on about the net, using Lynx and email with arcane clients that you had to use to connect. I used the internet for research, I had children … [Read more...] about All About Deborah Carney and BookGoodies – Intro for #armchairbea
