What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
I am inspired by my own life experiences and how the world viewed my experiences. Caramel Addiction shares a story of a lesbian polygamous woman and her struggles maintaining what she wants her life to look like. It's the first book in a three book collection that explores poly love in lesbian, bisexual, and straight relationships. I believe telling a story is the best way to break down mental barriers people may have about LGBT and poly life.
How Did You Come up With Your Characters?
It took me years to develop the characters. I wrote a short story 15 years ago with two characters; this was the beginning of Caramel Addiction and the entire Chocolate Caramel Vanilla series. My characters have grown up and evolved with me over the years which helped me to write their growth in my stories.
"I already told you!" Jade yelled.
"You didn't tell me shit. You just keep giving me the run around." Persia responded. "Who the fuck was on your phone?"
"It was just my cousin. She always messages me on FB, you know that." Jade explained.
"Let me see…" Persia requested. She was fully dressed and ready to walk out the door. She attempted to resolve this with a conversation, but Jade was defensive.
"If you don't trust me then why are we even together? I'm tired of this. It's like we haven't proved ourselves to each other." Jade said.
"Just like I thought." Persia picked up her cell phone, briefcase, and coffee before heading silently out the door.
"Your thoughts always go there and I'm not going to keep indulging you. You and your suspicion can sleep in the guest room tonight." Jade responded angrily before slamming the front door.
Jade always had a problem committing to Persia consistently. They have been in and out of different types of relationships over the last two years. Monogamy just didn't seem to be a viable option for the couple. Even when they were in a monogamous relationship, there was always someone Jade couldn't let go of. Persia came to terms with who Jade really was even when Jade couldn't admit it to herself. They maintained an open relationship with very specific rules. Jade broke the rules. Jade always broke the rules. She always had a reason. Like that made a difference.
Persia sat in silence behind the wheel of her car for 5 minutes. She put her wireless headphones in her ear and spoke a command, "Call Lexi." She started her car and pulled out of the parking lot as the phone rang in her ear.
"Well, well, well…I've missed you." A seductive voice answered.
"Are you busy tonight Lexi?" Persia asked.
"Of course not. Well, not too busy for you… What's wrong?" Lexi responded.
"Life is getting to me and I need to see you. Tonight, your place?" Persia asked.
"For you both?" Lexi held her breath for the answer.
"No, Lexi. This time, it'll just be me." Persia said. "I just need someone to talk to. You know what I need."
