As tempting as it may be to sidestep the entire notion of building an author platform, the harsh reality is that it is going to be nearly impossible to get a book by a first-time author into the hands of enough readers to make a difference (financially or emotionally) without some kind of reputation and audience base that is going to be ready and willing to buy their work.
So the question is, what can you do NOW if you’re an author with a book and no following or brand? Should you even try to play catch up, and if so where do you begin?
If you want to thrive in today’s rapidly changing marketplace and achieve your goals as an author you must learn to treat your writing as a business. Written for the author with a book but little or no following or brand, Beyond Your Book will show you the way to begin now to establish your name as an author, communicate the value of your work, and develop trusting relationships with your readers.

How is Writing In Your Genre Different from Others?
First of all there’s the exhaustive research required, and then getting your book into the hands of readers is a tough sell regardless of your niche because the Internet is one big vast storehouse of free information – some relevant, a lot of it not so much. I don’t let that bother me because there will always be people who would rather spend days or weeks searching for free information than pay for a quality product. I write for authors who are ready to think of their writing as a business, and would rather spend their time writing more books.

What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
My own experiences from publishing my first book. I’m about to publish my 8th and I’ve learned a lot along the way and I do my best to share that knowledge with fellow authors through my books and my blog The Business of Being an Author.
