What inspired you to write your book?
For years now, I despaired about the effects of fireworks on dogs. I wrote this short story to do what I could to hopefully spread awareness.
About your Book:
A free short story told from the dogs perspective on his traumatic journey during a devali (festival of lights/fireworks) night and how it affects his life forever…
Book Genre: Pets, Dogs
What formats are your books in
How do you see writing a book in the Pet Genre as different from writing other genres of books?
It is quite challenging, you need to strike a balance between the animal and human element, enough to make the book interesting, but also to keep the essence of the animal’s characteristics.
Advice to someone that is thinking about or currently working on a pet book
If you are thinking about writing about animals, spend time with them. Read up on their history, their characteristics and how and why they would react to the elements they will be interacting with in your book.
How did you decide how to publish your book and where is it published through:
As this is a very short story I decided to publish it as an eBook through Lulu and Smashwords.
I was born in Boston, England, to South African parents. I moved to Scotland for a brief period when I was five before going to Chegutu, a tiny town in Zimbabwe, where I spent my happy junior years. I moved to South Africa when I was in Standard 5 and have remained here ever since. I moved from Durban to Johannesburg for my wonderful husband. We now share two amazing children.
I love all animals, especially dogs (of which I am a qualified fun agility coach and Dog Behaviourist) and horses. I love reading and writing, which I am certain is why I enjoy studying too. I have worked in IT and accounting for the majority of my working career.
I hope you enjoy reading my stories and would love to hear any comments and thoughts you have.
