Today's Armchair BEA topic is "Ethics in Blogging." What guidelines must we follow as bloggers--attribution, disclosure, honesty? Have you had an experience with plagiarism (victim or perpetrator?), and how did you deal with it? Do you have recommendations to new bloggers about how to ensure that credit is given to whom/where it's due? This is a topic that really hits home with me. I'm a photographer and digital artist in addition to being an author and blogger. I've been outspoken about … [Read more...] about Ethics in Blogging #ArmchairBEA

New KDP Select Promotion Available – Guest Post from Shawn Inmon
Shawn Inmon has had some very successful free book runs on Amazon and I asked him for his thoughts on the new Bargain Countdown Options. Here's what he has to say: Amazon announced a change to its KDP Select program today that I think is significant. Before we look into the pros and cons of the new Kindle Countdown Deals, a quick look back at some Select history is in order. KDP Select launched early in 2012 and gave authors a new promotional tool: the chance to give their books away … [Read more...] about New KDP Select Promotion Available – Guest Post from Shawn Inmon

BookGoodies Small Business Story
Why did you start your business? I had a physically disabled son that wrote. A lot. He wrote fiction, nonfiction, plays and screenplays. And then he died. I wanted to get his books and plays published and in doing so I wanted to help others promote their books too. He was 21 when he died in a car accident and his one big belief was that anyone can write and be successful. Young people are told they can't write because they lack experience. Disabled can't write because they are disabled so … [Read more...] about BookGoodies Small Business Story

What is the Difference Between an Author Interview and a Book Post?
Yesterday we sent out a newsletter that had a list of the author interviews on our site. There is apparently some confusion about the author interviews vs the book posts. Here is the list of authors that have submitted *interviews* http://bookgoodies.com/author-interview-list/ Yes it is a very long page! Use Ctrl F (PC) or Cmnd F (Mac) and search the page for your interview. If you are not on that list and remember submitting *something* to BookGoodies that included some interview … [Read more...] about What is the Difference Between an Author Interview and a Book Post?

A New Kind of Gatekeeper?
I've been involved in indie book promoting for a couple of years now and I'm becoming alarmed at a new trend. There are suddenly a number of sites that either used to be indie friendly or were indie friendly until their sites got "legs" and all of a sudden there are restrictions on what books they will promote or you have to almost win the lottery to get listed in their newsletter or posted on their site. Now since this is their business model we have to accept it. Or do we? As an indie … [Read more...] about A New Kind of Gatekeeper?
Do Readers “Owe” Writers a Review?
I've been watching a very disturbing trend among indie authors that is going to, if it hasn't already, gives indie a bad taste. Authors have been blogging and posting to social media with posts that indicate they think that readers owe it to authors to leave a review on their books. This smacks of disrespect for the readers and is looking very unprofessional. I've seen posts that range from "readers should appreciate all the time it took so should leave a review" to "karma will get you if you … [Read more...] about Do Readers “Owe” Writers a Review?
