In the 1930’s when a young man on the road with marginal musicians meets a showgirl, a feigned romance results in Ruby adding a strong arm to her U-boat booze delivery operation near Atlantic City. RC Franklin and his friend Harry Longleaf embark on a journey that involves them in petty crimes and leads to a tragedy of epic proportions in this historical fiction.
Charles Frankhauser traveled with the Big Bands of the World War II era while his dad played the trumpet in many of the well known venues of the day. The Steel Pier in Atlantic City was an extended gig that allowed the author to wander around the Boardwalk during the days while his parents slept as a result of working all night. He served in diesel-electric submarines in the U.S. Navy. Mr. Frankhauser visited many of the locales featured in this novel.
