What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
My love for reading this type of book. I feel there aren’t enough magical fantasy books in the world and after finishing reading a book I loved I decided I wanted to create a book myself. I have loved writing this book – getting to know the characters and places myself.
How Did You Come up With Your Characters?
I wanted a book with a strong female lead and I wanted to write my book from a different perspective of someone who is shy, cautious and takes a longer kinder route to get to their outcome.
Amelia closed the door on her cinnamon scented house, stepping into the deep freshly lain snow. Her footprints trailed behind her as soft Christmas songs played into the minty fresh air, leading her way into town. Finally free to enjoy her day as she pleased.
‘Good Morning,’ shouted Mrs Wick the candle shop owner, flinging open her wooden doors and gleefully ushering in customers. Mrs Wick was the friendliest of people but Amelia, as usual, felt too shy to respond. She bent her head down and sulked into the dim side streets, where the candle powered street lights didn’t quite reach. She was too nervous to respond for fear she’d trip over the cobblestoned streets or mispronounce her words. It was a shame as Mrs Wick was lovely and would have happily chatted to Amelia.
Being tall and clumsy as she was; blending in didn’t come naturally to Amelia, she was always a head above someone else so couldn’t hide. Amelia loved people, and she longed to have friends. She spent most of her time watching other families Christmas shopping, friends building snow figures together. But her curse of being shy wouldn’t let her join in. Only she never felt that way with her family. That was her home, where she fitted in and could say anything silly, they would just laugh. That was another reason why she was so desperate to get them back.
