What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
I love the depth of Nehemiah's faith, and I wondered what it looked like from the perspective of a teen and then a young woman. The more I researched the period, I came across many things that intrigued me. Queen Esther may have known Nehemiah, and bride and slave markets–though outlawed by the kings–still operated. The thought made me realize these facts needed illustrated and hopefully Adira's journey to freedom will help others fine their way home.
How Did You Come up With Your Characters?
As I was reading the book of Nehemiah in the Bible, I wondered if he had a family. The Bible tells us he had a brother. The longer I thought about it, I knew even if Nehemiah didn't marry, his brothers had to–and Adira was born.
