Forged in Fire: Bringer of Chaos Science Fiction and Space Opera series Kindle Edition
No food. No shelter. No weapons. Enemies aplenty. And the only one watching his back is his captor.
When traitors maroon the immortal king Pietas on an alien planet, there's no escape. Half a million of his followers were transported as well, asleep in their cryopods.
Pietas could create a new world, rule his people, and start life over. Except there's no technology, no infrastructure, and every pod is set to open at the same time. Stacked atop one another in inoperable units, the pods will trap his fellow immortals in a gruesome cycle of repeated deaths, lodged within the very pods that should have offered sanctuary.
Unless Pietas can free them before that happens.
At his side is an irascible mortal who'd once been his jailer, and a fascinating woman who's the designer of their people's finest weapons—and telepathic. Just his luck, Pietas has been adopted by an entire tribe of know-it-all sentient panthers.
But first, he must deal with the most dysfunctional family in the history of forever...

From the Back Cover
In the Terran Crescent, home of mankind, Ultras--human-like, genetically enhanced and effectively immortal--were a boon. Ultra scientists eliminated disease and implemented incredible advances in science, technology, manufacturing, and space travel. Ultra warriors advanced mankind's territory and kept its borders safe.
Ultras served without choice, bound by genetic shackles.
When the slave-race learned how to overthrow those shackles and take command, they became mankind's greatest threat. By 4501 AD, Ultras dominated the galaxy.
One faction conspired against the others.
Hiding among humans as humans, they manipulated their Ultra brethren into peace talks. On an isolated starport in the central part of the galaxy, they captured the High Council and its Chancellor, Pietas.
Holding the leaders hostage, the traitors duped half a million loyal Ultras into surrendering, and then transported the captives across the galaxy to an undeveloped planet.
They exiled walking weapons who could never die.
Left them to survive under the most primitive conditions, and then...
Forgot them.
Big, big mistake.

About the author
Kayelle Allen writes sci-fi, space opera, romance, and gay romance. Does she write happy ever afters? Some stories require endings that offer happy-for-now, or hopeful-for-the-future. But all provide endings that satisfy, and never leave you dangling over a cliff.
She did a tour in the US Navy, where she climbed around airplanes (on the ground, thankfully) fixing black boxes that helped pilots find their way home. Kayelle wrote her first science fiction novel at eighteen and to this day, she hides it under the bed, where she vows it will remain. Gems from it, however, launched several series in her galaxy-wide universe of stories.
From childhood, Kayelle was the victim of an overactive imagination and inherited the Irish gift of gab from her mother. From her father, she got a healthy respect for mechanical things.
No wonder she writes Science Fiction and Fantasy peopled with misbehaving robots, mythic heroes, role playing immortal gamers, and warriors who purr. She's been married so long she's tenured.

- Reviewed in the United States on April 4, 2018Kayelle Allen has created a rather dark but powerful story for book two of this series called the Bringer of Chaos Series. This book begins with a broken Pietras, who had been tortured and starved for a very long time. With the help of his family and friends, he grows strong again, even as parts of him remains broken.
Pietras and his kin are immortal. He is the War Leader of the Ultras, Chancellor of the High Council. Even broken he remained their leader. However, his father, Mahikos, the beast who tortured him and his sister throughout their lives was on this planet as well. As well as many people he loves or will grow to love. Some are immortal, one is human, and then there are also immortal giant panthers.
During their journey, they discover many lies that had been presented as truths, until with the help of others, the real truths were laid bare. But learning a truth can be painful as well, and more than one suffers from the lies and truths.
While a dense and often dark story, it was a fabulous read and I highly recommend it.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 25, 2018Military sci-fi without excessive discussions of weaponry. I love it. On the loosing side with a war with humanity, the enhanced Ultras are exiled to primitive planet on the edge of the known universe where their leader, Pietas, must find a means to save them and build a future. The small group awakened from cryogenic slumber includes Pietas sadistic father and the love of his very long life, Joss.
This is the second in the series and I haven't read the first, which was a bit of challenge for my book OCD. Fortunately, the author gives enough of the backstory that I didn't feel lost. Partly due to the fact that much of the book focuses on what lead Pietas and his people to be stuck on the planet and his coming to terms with just how badly his father needs to get dead.
More bro-mance than romance, the major relationship in the story is not between Pietas(m) and Joss(f) but Pietas and Six (m), his comrade in arms. Not that Pietas and Joss don't have super chemistry and strong romantic relationship, but all the drama is with Six. On the steam level - other than kissing, closed door all the way.
On the downside, its a bit heavy on the angst for main characters who are supposedly remorseless killers, and while I enjoy PNR blended into sci-fi, some of the 'powers' pushed me into eye-rolling.
A complete story, it does end with the setup for the next book, which I will read.

- Reviewed in the United States on October 27, 2018In Book 2 of the Bringer of Chaos series, Pietas and Six find Pietas' family and discover a horrid disaster—something else for Pietas to hate humans over. I have to admit, I'm beginning not to be too proud of the humans either at this point. One of the most interesting things about this book is the dynamic between Pietas and Six. Once Pietas is back with his family and the other council members, he naturally wants to step back into his position of power. But he's changed, thanks to his journey to the planet and his relationship with Six. That dichotomy in his personality—the Ultra who instinctively wants to assume power and rule and who also knows that he's not the same as he was a year and a half ago—is hard for him to grasp. He needs Six to keep him grounded but even that relationship has to change.
Kayelle does a masterful job of showing Pietas' emotions with all the different influencers in his life, but especially with Six. These books make me wonder why I haven't read science fiction much before. Or maybe I was just waiting for the best to come my way…?
- Reviewed in the United States on April 27, 2020Just cannot put this down. Just do not want it to end. Now I wait for more, to find out if Pietas goes on, with Six by his side along with Joss. I. Need. Answers.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 1, 2018I've read a couple in Kayelle's "Chosen" series of books and this one had more emotional depth which was pleasurable. There were things to like about this book, including a tribe of sentient panthers, and lord knows, we all love a good story with kitties. Why I couldn't rate this book a five, however, was that it wasn't a proper story on its own. You got a little lost if you didn't read the previous book "Bringer of Chaos: The Origins of Pietas." And the story is about a family so dysfunctional, they make the Kardashians look like the Cleavers from "Leave It To Beaver." There are couple lines that rip your heart out for sure, but you would think, at least I do, that a multi-century-year-old man would have resolved some of this stuff by now. This story puts the opera into space opera, so if you enjoy that, you won't be disappointed. Fade to black scenes makes this a PG rating in the romance department.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 19, 2018An intense story that kept me turning pages. Abandoned on a new world. Finding his people in trouble. Showing Pietas' friendships and vulnerability is well done. Definitely enjoyed the story and the well drawn characters.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 19, 2023I enjoyed reading this book. We find answers to why the characters are who they are within. The book left me feeling the need to read more about them and learn where life will lead them. I recommend this book to others.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sprachlos

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant Book
Loved the Origin of Pietas story and couldn't wait to read this one. It drew me in from page one. To see Pietas grow and learn about emotion is a joy. It's beautifully written and unmissable. I can't wait for the next book in the series.
