After Claire McEvoy’s first attempt at love was shattered by devastating violence, she built walls, barriers, and obstacles to protect herself from everyone, including her family. She learned to cope by devoting her entire life to taking care of everyone else’s needs and happiness.

Jackson Alexander knows all of the past ugliness that occurred, and although he has loved Claire since she was fifteen years old, he always settled for the friendship that she offered. Now, twenty-three years later, he is back and getting the chance he always desired.

Claire still finds it impossible to let any man into her life, but he won’t be deterred. This time he is not letting her push him away. Even if it means getting a flag on the play for encroachment, Claire will ultimately be his.

Encroachment (Coach's Shadow Trilogy Book 2)
    By: Monica DeSimone
    5 out of 5 stars

The story Encroachment (Coach's Shadow Trilogy Book 2) by Monica DeSimone is a sports/romance book. This is the story of Claire McEvoy and Jackson Alexander. This is the second book in the Coach’s Shadow Trilogy and I loved it just as much as the first one. It is also the second book I have read by the author and I find that both her writing style and character development is amazing. Claire is someone who has always put others first. She helped raise her younger sister as well has having a child of her own at a young age. Her parents seemed to care more about appearances than the happiness and well-being of their daughter. Claire has survived and has built a comfortable life for herself. I love the character of Claire as she is such a giving person. Most people would have given up with all the obstacles put in her way, not Claire. However, Claire also has a hard time coming to terms with her past. She is angry at her parents for their lack of support. She also has a secret. Once that she has tightly guarded. She will not let any man into her life. Now a man that she has known for a long time has professed his love for her. What will Claire do? Will she push him away or take a chance at love?

Jackson has loved Claire since she was fifteen years old. He knows about her pain and what she hides from both her friends and family. He has always supported her as much as she would allow. Now he wants to go further. He knows that he has to go slow and be patient to have a chance with Claire, but he is willing to do whatever he needs to. Then circumstances arise that have Claire reliving the past and some days just trying to survive. Jackson is angry as the position that Claire has been put in and tells her that he will defend her and her daughter. How far will Jackson go to protect Claire and her daughter? Will Jackson be able to convince Claire that she is the one that has claimed his heart? Can he convince Claire to trust him?

This book had me from the first chapter and quickly turning pages to find out what happens next. This is a series that has characters who show up in both books and I love when an author does this. It is like catching up with old friends and finding out what is happening in their lives while reading the story of the two main characters. This book did have my emotions working overtime. I found myself feeling the same emotions as the characters and that is how I know that I have found an awesome book. Find out if Claire and Jackson find their HEA! This book does touch on a sensitive subject, has adult language and adult situations. It would be recommended for those 18 years of age or older.

    Encroachment
    By: Monica DeSimone
    ⅗ Stars

The book follows a woman by the name of Claire McEvoy who has had her heartbroken at her first attempt of love. It was a violent break and because of that, she has shielded herself from everyone around her, this includes members of her own family. Claire’s life now rotates around caring for other people.

The book also follows the love interest, Jackson Alexander who has loved Claire since she was a teenager but settled to be in the friendzone. Years later, the chance has finally come for Jackson’s shot but he understands why Claire is acting the way that she is because he has been there, felt the kind of heartbreak she has gone through. Even though she tries to push him away, Jackson will not let Claire go.

The book was well written and so interesting but with the New Adult genre, this troupe is so overplayed and gets to be old. I do enjoy the “strong female lead” and the “sensitive, savior of a man” but I feel like we’ve been there done that so many other times.

I did enjoy Claire as a strong female character but did not enjoy Jackson. He felt pushy to me even though it is said he is understanding of her feelings. Personally, I could have done without the romance in this book. I did enjoy everything else though!

Encroachment by Monica DeSimone is the second of the Coach's Shadow Trilogy. We finally find out more about Claire (Zoey's sister from Second Half). She is pegged as the Ice Queen. She gets things done and no one better cross her. She is a great mother and raised her daughter and her sister pretty much on her own. Her parents....were mostly absent and stuck in their world where nothing can touch them. She believes that love is not attainable in real life and for her it never will. So she holds on to whatever control she can in order to just keep living. Jackson was her closest friend and ally when she was a teen but what happened to her back then keeps her from letting him back in now as an adult. She has to deal with him though...they both work for the same football team...she has no choice. Jackson is just a beautiful, sweet and completely loving man. Will Claire let him in? Will she finally realize that love really IS attainable and that she deserves it? Jackson may be the man to finally help her figure that out

This is only the second book written by this author but its just as great as the first. I love a good alpha, angst, great characters, and some laughs. This series has it all. Definitely looking forward to book 3.

5.0 out of 5 stars because I really loved the first one

Encroachment is the second book in the Coach’s Shadow Trilogy by Monica DeSimone. I wasn’t sure what to expect from this book, because I really loved the first one, a lot- but I needn’t have worried. This book is just as good as the first.
We met Claire McEvoy in the first book, as she is Zoey’s older sister. They work together at Coach’s Shadow, the foundation that Zoey began in memory of her beloved father. Although Claire was never as close to their father as Zoey was, because Claire feels like her parents turned away from her at a time in her life when she needed their love, guidance and support the most. She went through a quite traumatic event that has since shaped the person she has become and set her on the path that her life has taken. Claire is the level headed, controlled, quiet and demure sister. She’s the nurturer, always taking care of others and putting their well-being ahead of her own. She and Zoey are very close, even though Zoey can drive her crazy at times.
Jackson Alexander (Jack) is aware of what Claire has been through, as he and Claire were the best of friend’s, many years ago. Circumstances took Jack away at a time when Claire really needed him. He knows Claire has built heavy barriers around her heart, in an effort to never to be hurt again. But he has loved her for so long now, he can no longer remember a time where he didn’t love her. He has never pushed for more than friendship, as he knows that it could be all Claire is able to offer. He’s back now and determined to prove that he is what she needs in her life. He wants to help her, care for her, love her and protect her. But what happens when her past comes back and threatens their happiness?
I was so engrossed in this story that I devoured it in one sitting. Ms. DeSimone has really out-done herself with this superb second instalment of her incredibly god series. I really can’t wait to get my hands on the third book.
    A really great read!

    Thank you Ms. DeSimone!
