Forgive Us This Day (Anniversary Edition): Book 1: Connected Souls series Kindle Edition

4.3 4.3 out of 5 stars 67 ratings

"What happens after the I do's? What happens after the courtship, wedding and honeymoon celebration fades? Barbara Joe Williams pulls back the curtain on these particular lives who seem to have it all in Forgive Us This Day.

Bad decisions, temptations, intentions and myriad other vices infiltrate the perfect union. Although we know what is coming, the breakdown is a painful one. The beauty of the story is also in the rebuilding of the marital foundation. Williams turns the screws on the characters' flaws and vulnerabilities that do a fantastic job to power up the tension to the very end." Michelle Monkou, USA Today

Alese Dean-Wayne is a happily married woman, at least she was happy when the New Year’s Day started. However, her entire life is about to change over the course of this day. After receiving an anonymous message that her husband has been intimate with one of his employees, she ponders if her long-term marriage is worth saving.

Michael Leron Wayne is a wealthy businessman, devoted husband, and a new father. However, he also happens to be human. After spending just one lustful night with one of his employees, he’s consumed with guilt, and contemplates whether or not to confess to his doting wife.

Alese and Michael Wayne have been married for fifteen years and weathered many storms together. They have forgiven each other many times before, but will each one be forgiven for this day?

This is a rewritten version of the original novel published in November 2004. The special anniversary edition has more main character development and added drama for your reading pleasure.

As a Christian, I believe and know that "Forgive Us This Day" was an inspiration for Barbara to name this story based on the Book of Matthew, the 6th Chapter and the 10th thru the 13th verses about the power of forgiveness. In life that Forgiveness is the key. This emotionally overflowing narration that directed me on the commute of a life span. Michael and Alese are on a spiritual journey of a life lesson, in the art of forgiveness after their relationship is fallacious by adultery. I love the way how the story display the characters that even though they supposed to be Christians but they have flawed traits just like in the real world. Some Christians do think that they are holier-than-thou Christian just like the character of Jolene. Those kind of Christians I will stray away from because they have their own skeletons to deal with. It took me about a week to finished reading "Forgive Us This Day". I am so glad that I read this book. Even though, Barbara really didn't want to label this book as a Christian Book, but the way how she created this story on a Christian Based of life lesson sermon that will stick to your soul. Through the Characters of Michael and Alese, Vivian and Darnell, we can learn from these two couples about the power of love, the pain caused by infidelity, faith and being able to forgive so we can restore our relationship. I am so glad that Michael confess the mistake and pain that he caused for Alese and willing to work & willing to fight for his marriage. Thank You Barbara for writing another great story about the power of love.

I've read other books by this author and it was another good story that held my attention. In fact, I finished it in one day!

Likes: The focus on forgiving and forgiveness. I really liked that it showed flawed Christians since that is truly reality. There was only 1 holier-than-thou Christian (Jolene), but her character provided comic relief more than anything else. The little girl was very sweet and I adored every scene she was in. I was relieved when Alese finally came to her senses. I loved that Marty proved to be a true best friend to Michael.

Dislikes: Lisa! I couldn't stand her trifling behind! I have a love/hate relationship with the author's gut-wrenching hospital scenes. They truly tug on with my emotions in the worst way (which actually speaks well of Barbara Joe's writing abilities) and yet they always leave me on edge whenever I start a new story by this author, because hospital scenes seem to be one of her signature plot twists. I wanted to give this book 5-stars, but the overuse of certain descriptions (involving clothing, furniture, etc...) slowed the story down and was even jarring at times. As a writer, I understand the need to paint a complete picture of what characters are wearing and their environments. As a reader, I just want the basics, especially when the action is rising.

In conclusion, this is a book that I would recommend to others.

Wow Ms. Williams. Thank you so much for a beautiful story about the ups and downs of married life. I was initially attracted to this book by the attractive cover. An avid romance reader, the cover caught my attention because it was so tastefully done—no bare chests or thighs. Upon starting to read the story of a happy married couple, I was in seventh heaven imagining being married to a man like Michael. That quickly turned to a what-if my husband did that. Although we often boast about 'hit the road, Jack', Ms. Williams words took us on an adventure where the devil played his part masterfully. I enjoyed her well-written dialogue between her characters and will be adding all her books to the top of my to be read list.

Thank you, Ms. Williams for taking the time to produce a quality product that I wouldn't hesitate to recommend to others.

When I read Forgive us This Day, I initially thought of Michael and Alese as the perfect couple. Then Barbara took me for a ride by introducing a secret rendezvous into the mix. Although unplanned, that moment of passion wreaked havoc in their marriage. This book created a rollercoaster of emotions. As a married woman, I had to consider the feelings of both Michael and Alese. I also pondered what I would have done in the situation. All I can say is, you'll never know how you'll react until you've been placed in that situation.

Again, good read from Barbara Joe. The story line flowed perfectly. I truly enjoy reading books that help me visualize a scene as it's happening, and Barbara does a great job of that. I would definitely recommend this and any other book from Barbara Joe Williams. It took me less than a weekend to finish.

The story is sweet. Especially when you add the element of sight. You never know what makes one take the risk to forge ahead and love someone. You see what it means to have unconditional love.

I will be honest, I haven't read a novel in about 25 years. Barbara really captured my attention by providing something that seemed realistic and something that as a married woman I could relate to. I love how she allowed readers to see just how lavish the characters were able to live. The book is just the right length and on a boring day pull out this book and a person's mind is taken to another place. A lot of married people can relate to this and to see how the couple worked through their problems really made the story seem close -to-home. The book was exciting. This was not a boring book at all. I speak highly of it and feel that it would make someone a great gift!

You did it Barbara!! - Victoria Sheffield
