Trust (Abduction Dark Romance Series Book 1) Kindle Edition
When I close my eyes and manage to block out the horrors going on around me and ignore the aches and pain in virtually every inch of my body, I can still hear the cheers of the audience as I’m lifted into the air by my teammates. For those few brief moments as I remember toppling from the top of the pyramid I feel like I’m flying, I’m free and nothing can hurt me. But, I was wrong… How long would it take before they stopped missing me; stopped looking; before I was forgotten about completely? A month? Six months? A year? I’m no longer a person. I’m a commodity.
Lance:
I have a plan, years in the making. It’s perfect – foolproof. All I need is to keep myself focused on the big picture – my ultimate goal. But then she arrived… She tests my patience and my will. She angers and frustrates me, making the darkness within scream to be released. I want to ignore her, but I can’t. I need to let her go, but can’t seem to allow her to be sent away. She’s going to ruin everything…

I currently live in Alberta with the love of my life, our adult children who refuse to leave the nest, and our many, many dogs. LOL. If life couldn't get any busier we foster puppies for SCARS animal rescue here in Alberta. When I manage to find some time I like to go down to the lake for a little paddleboarding and kayaking.
So tha's the story of me.
Thank you all for supporting me and my work,
Terry

- Reviewed in the United States on July 24, 2014This is an intense and powerful story. I really really loved it. There's a lot going on sometimes, but it all comes together to make it very poignant and deep.
Trust starts out kind of calm, with Gwen and her boyfriend enjoying a sort of quiet evening together. He's pressuring her to give up her virginity to him, but she wants to wait to make it special. (And maybe he's not the one, anyways?). I really liked this part, because the fact that she waits kind of saves her and adds to the plot later on. But then the fact that she didn't let him give her a ride home... well... you can't win everything, I guess.
The story progresses very fast from there. Kidnapped on her way home, she's transferred to a facility where she's being trained as a slave for a potential buyer. The fact that she's a virgin is going to up her price, too. It's an interesting angle, and I've heard similar before, but it seemed different here.
Lance has plans, though. Gwen's really threatening to ruin them. I liked them coming together and meeting, though. There was an intensity and strange attraction going on there. Obviously she's not really in a good spot, but maybe he isn't, either? Does he want to do this, or...?
Trust has a lot of great parts to it. Some of it reminded me of Tears of Tess almost, but more like the beginning, before Tess meets Q. I've really enjoyed a lot of these dark romances lately, as well, and I would definitely put Trust high up on the ones I've enjoyed lately. The power and evocative nature of the relationships that can form in these types of books is just really intoxicating.
If you like dark romance and capture fantasy types of things, with strong emotions and relationships forming through adversity, I definitely think you'll enjoy this one. Terry Towers is an amazing writer, too. I don't think you can go wrong here!
- Reviewed in the United States on June 28, 2014I enjoyed this book and appreciated it being a stand alone story.
Gwen is kidnapped while walking home from her boyfriend's house by human traffickers who plan to sell her. Because she's a virgin, she'll make them more money so no one is allowed to touch her excerpt for the Boss and his son Lance. The boss decides she'll be the perfect slave for Lance to start his training with the girls. Problem is, Lance immediately feels protective of Gwen and abusing and hurting her are not what he wants to do. He's worked hard to form a plan to take his father down and can't afford to get sidetracked by the beautiful blonde that he can't stop thinking about.
I loved watching Lance and Gwen fall for each other. Lance is as much a prisoner as Gwen is. He's so tender with her to have been raised by such a horrible man. You'll find yourself rooting for them to have their happy ending.
There are a few rough scenes, but I've read similar books which are much worse. The guards are jerks, but it's really not too graphic.
Overall good book.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 27, 2014Trust was actually a very good book, reasonably well written, not distractingly implausible (SPOILER: it could have been, but the author was smart enough not to try to provide too many hard to substantiate details - like how you rig a room in a high security compound with poison gas. END SPOILER), and none of the characters were overly annoying. That said, there was just a lack of chemistry between me and the book. I thought it was on the boring side. Granted recently I've taken to reading paranormal romances with enough plot twists that ideally a storyboard is required to follow the action; so my expectation of "things happening" may be a bit high for basically what is a straight up unconventional romance.
"Trust" is part of the new genre of human trafficking/sex slave novels. Admittedly I really don't understand the draw of the genre. I'm not "put off" by it, and I've read a few in the genre out of curiosity but it really doesn't "do it" for me either. "Trust" seems to me to be on the tamer, less dark end of the spectrum. Despite everything happening, Gwen seems to maintain her "plucky cheerleader" persona. I did think she adapted too well to her situation and at times was even cavalier about it. SPOILER: Her response to realizing she was going to be kept in a cell and have to use a bucket to eliminate in was to say to herself "Well, when in Rome...". Really? END SPOILER). I also thought that for a virgin she took to the whole sex thing awfully well. I mean AWFULLY WELL. I get that she had an emotional connection with the hero, but still...naive virgin to sex starved porn Queen in under 5 minutes...impressive.
Getting back to the darkness, or lack thereof. Gwen did not seem to be particularly horrified by anything, therefore as the reader...I wasn't either. Nothing especially bad happened to her (Which obviously must be put in the context of "of all the possible bad things that given this scenario COULD have happened to her" ). That said, there were 2 instances of her being forced to give "The Boss" (who happens to be the hero's father) oral sex and a couple of other instances of unwelcomed fondling, one a forced gyn exam. And yes, all of those things are horrifying and terrifying and could be potential triggers for some people - I'm just juxtaposing them to all the possible scenarios that my imagination (fed on 35 years of reading primarily horror novels) conjured...and saying...eh...not so dark.
For Lance's part, he was honestly a nice guy in a bad situation. I get and I respect the whole "need for revenge no matter what the cost" motive in certain situations. I thought his character was somewhat under-developed and he had an annoying habit of "clucking his tongue off the roof of his mouth". I wonder if it would have been as annoying to watch it as it was to read it? I kind of wish that people "huffed" less too - but all writers seem to get fixated on favorite words and I'm just the sort of reader who has a pet peeve for noticing and getting annoyed. With relation to plot - I also had a hard time with the "insta-love" between Lance and Gwen. I kind of got it on her part because he was a beacon of safety in an untenable situation; but I don't get what drew him to her - given his agenda, and out of all the other girls. I never felt any real chemistry between them.
So to summarize, an unconventional romance with some dark elements but not so dark as to over-shadow the romance and a HEA.

1.0 out of 5 stars Yuck.. left a bad taste in my mind.
Not much to recommend in this book. Gwen is a flake and Lance is seriously disturbed. Yes there is a bit of mystery, but as I neared the end I couldn't wait to finish it. The author tries to portray Gwen as a sweet innocent who empathizes with everyone but I wanted her to stop all the angst and emoting and constantly questioning Lance. Lance pulls her in easily. I wanted to smack her.
Yes there are dark aspects to the book. Human trafficking is brutal & despicable. Trying to make it a romance is like putting lipstick on a pig. Lance's true role within the organization is anti-heroic.
A cheap book but what is your time worth if by the end you don't like the main characters, and the plot was poorly crafted.

4.0 out of 5 stars was an ok story
First book that I have read by this author
The book was good, but I feel bad for saying that it could of done with a bit more ‘darker’

3.0 out of 5 stars ok but.......
Not really what I would call a dark romance as it skates over the story with no real depth. characters not that convincing could have been a better book with a bit more thought
