- Reviewed in the United States on May 28, 2017Your little ones will adore this book and you’ll be reading it with them over and over. I did and I don’t have any young ones!
Harold, the blue baboon, lives in a blue balloon. He’s very close with his brother, Gerald, and they enjoy tea together at three. They are joined by many friends. Mice that fly kites, a green cat named Matt, and many others. There’s even a mite that fights a troll named, Dwight.
One night, they all pile into Harold’s balloon and sail to the moon, where they make new friends, including the cow that jumped over the moon.
I must have read this 5 or 6 times in a row. I couldn’t stop smiling at the fun, vividly colored illustrations. I read this on my Kindle Fire and the bold colors leaped out at me. And the rhyming is addictive. I think I know the whole story by heart now.
Your kids will fall in love with these adorable characters and they’ll be begging you to read it with them. A delightful story for beginning readers and a fun tool for those that haven’t learned yet. I highly recommend and my personal rating is….to the moon and back!
- Reviewed in the United States on June 17, 2014I received this from the author for a honest review.
when I was asked to review this I was excited. A new children's book similar to Dr. Seuss I love Dr. Seuss but than I thought okay it may pass me but will it stand up to higher standards. What standards could those be you must be wondering? Well the standards of a six year old. So I put this wonderful book (yes I loved this book) to the ultimate test my six year old niece. If she loves it you are golden.
So we have Harold who's brother is gerald and Herald lives in a big balloon. Harold and Gerald sip tea and have a green cat named mat who chases the mice that eat fried rice and there is a mite on the kite who fights the troll named dwight. They end up going to the moon where they meet holly and molly who dance to the singing of their friend panda who sings on the veranda in a banana.
This wonderfully funny book reminded of reading a book like Green eggs and Ham or the old lady who swallowed a fly. I loved it from beginning to end. Four days later and I can still recite the rhymes. Such a fun tale. Like I said though being a Dr. Seuss fan softens me to love this type of book so can it pass the ultimate test. The six year old. I sat down with my niece and we cuddled with the Kindle for a read. What a trip. The book is a trip in itself but seeing the expressions on my niece's face and how it lit up when she laughed at portions of this book and said how silly and fun made my day. She loved this book so much she asked for a hard copy of it. This lets you know that this is a hit with kiddos because little kiddos generally don't ask for a book. Right now she curls up with the Kindle to read this book at bedtime until her copy comes in.
So it passed the six year old test with flying colors. Why? It is a fun entertaining book like Green eggs and Ham and the old lady who swallowed the fly. From the minute you start to the end their is a smile on your face and this books rhymes stay with you for days on end. Such a wonderful fun delightful read for young and old alike .
- Reviewed in the United States on April 25, 2014I'm not sure if it was me stumbling through the rhyming sentences or the actual adventure that my kids thought funnier! The illustrations were absolutely fantastic and the story line adventurous! Looking forward to their next piece of work.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 1, 2014This book made me smile from the cover to the last page! The characters are clever and adorable and the story is fun to read.
People will enjoy the rhyming aspect too. The illustrations are unique and therefore make this book different than the other children's books out there. The "mice and the friend rice" lines were so funny. I encourage you to buy this beautiful book for the kids in your life!
- Reviewed in the United States on April 23, 2014A wonderful book that engages my 4 1/2 year old son visually while we read it together. Some of the words were new to him, which was fun as I got to explain those words. The drawings are stunning and keep him focused on the pages while we read the book. We spend a lot of time discussing the images as we talk about what is going on in that page beyond the words.
One of those rare books which focuses on the positive.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 7, 2014The Blue Baboon in the big balloon is Dr. Seuss taken to a whole new level!!!
This book is not your typical nursery rhyme, although it does feature the ever so popular cow that jumped over the moon… amongst many other hilarious and unique characters.
It is a fun story for both children and adults.
I am looking forward to to the next book the author publishes. The illustrations are excellent!!!

3.0 out of 5 stars Good idea but so-so execution
The word "baboon" itself is funny. So it's a good idea to build a funny story around this word. Unfortunately, the level of imagination, artwork and verbal fantasy is far, far below Dr Seuss. It doesn't stand the comparison with the Cat in the Hat or Fox in Socks.
