- Reviewed in the United States on February 10, 2014Delilah has grown a good amount since book one and her company, the Dustbusters are successful and have been summoned to Transylvania for a party. Upon arrival, Delilah learns about why her dust magics have been going all wonky and more about her background. I was excited to learn a little more about this. Dracula has a hilarious personality, and the other Dustbusters that accompany Delilah to Transylvania are interesting, secretive, and also a good bunch.
In this short story, the characters are wonderful, however the plot starts and takes off very rapidly, you barely know there is going to be such excitement and suddenly it is there are you are dying to flip the page. Another very cute and imaginative story in the Delilah Dusticle series. I found this installment very entertaining and a quick read.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 23, 2014Delilah Dusticle is back with a big assignment that only she can handle. With her new business Dustbusters formed with her good friend Abi, things are starting to look promising. Using her special gift of eradicating duct, Delilah scales up walls, reaches into crevices and captures dusts that no other individuals can’t. Delilah has now discovered that if she feels sad or loses her concentration, her special gift fails her. Instead of eradicating dust, dust begins to fall and coats everything around her. A strange occurrence but something Delilah must keep in check. With a Grumpy Sponge in her pouch, Delilah is at work one day when a letter is delivered asking for her services from Count Dracula in Transylvania. A trip! Not wanting to pass up this adventure, Delilah and two of her employees embark on this adventure. Doris, a strange quirky lady and Dev, this fun daring lad accompanied Delilah on this job. What a ride they have to arrive in a new country. What Count Dracula had in mind for Delilah and her cleaning crew was not what they anticipated but choosing Delilah for this job was perfect. Getting the castle ready was a big job but the tale is not over. As Count calls out his guests, “Jack Frost,” “Esmeralda Wartface,” “Garb and Garbie Gargoyle,” “Baroness Noreen and her entourage” it is this last name that draws the most attention. Her arrival at the ball causes quite a commotion that leads to a fun-filled quest of discovery.
A great children’s book, as Delilah does more self-discovery in this story as she learns about her past and she moves forwards in her new business. I was excited to see some pictures inserted into this book as it adds to the story. As Delilah finds out more about her special talents, she questions whether, “I am not sure it is a gift. It’s a bit weird, and it can sometimes be a curse.” I liked that thought, a pure honest thought to talk about with a child as you are reading the book to them. The night of the ball was fabulous and children will truly enjoy hearing/reading about that account. The book is thrilling and a fun read.
The author provided me a copy of this book for an honest opinion.

Series: Book #2: Delilah Dusticle Series
Source: Author
Rating: 4/5 stars
Round two of the Delilah Dusticle series finds Delilah and her best friend Abi up to their ears in cleaning jobs. Opening Dustbusters has proven to be a huge success what with Delilah’s ability to completely eradicate dust and Abi’s top of the line dusters. The girls have a stellar crew that includes: Delilah’s boyfriend and vacuum cleaner fixer, Duncan; the young and somewhat clumsy Billy; the stern and very dependable, Doris and; the large and in charge, Dev. Together, the crew sets up and cleans up some of the finest homes and parties in all of England and their talents are becoming very well-known.
Much to everyone’s surprise, The Dustbusters fame has spread far and wide and so, when they are invited to Transylvania to work a large and fantastical party in a CASTLE, the crew accepts and begins preparations for the long journey. The trip to Count Winifred Dracula’s castle is anything but smooth and once the Dustbuster’s arrive, the weirdness doesn’t stop. Of course the name Dracula is well-known but nothing could have prepared the crew for Winni Dracula – he is loud and jolly and over the top excited to have the Dustbusters in his home. What’s even more surprising is what he wants the Dustbusters to do: to make a mess out of his castle rather than clean it! Clearly confused, Delilah confronts the Count.
Winnie is nothing if not completely honest and he tells Delilah that people expect a certain level of spooky and eerie when attending a Dracula’s party and so, he needs the castle to appear old and dilapidated rather than beautiful, bright and, clean. Oh, and Winnie also tells Delilah that not only can she make her magic happen in reverse but she can do it better than anyone else in the world because she is no ordinary human but, a brownie. Though skeptical, Delilah follows Winnie’s instructions and soon finds that she can work her magic in reverse and before long, the entire crew is working in reverse and the castle is covered in icky ooey dust. Please with their work, the Dustbusters are excited to enjoy the party and they do so right up until the moment Delilah is kidnapped!! Absolute madness ensues as the Dustbusters - with the help of some very surprising allies – scramble to find and rescue Delilah.
The Bottom Line: Delilah’s time in Transylvania is, as the title implies, an adventure. The Dustbusters not only expand their business but meet some very fun and entertaining characters while abroad. Additionally, with this read, York is beginning to offer a few more clues about her characters (Delilah is a BROWNIE!!) and how it is they all have come together. The plot is fun and fast-paced and though this read is longer than the first, it will certainly keep younger readers entertained. In all, I am pleased with this series and looking forward to the next Delilah Dusticle adventure! Installment three: Delilah Dusticle and the Cursed Tempest.
