About the author
I was born in Australia and upon reaching adulthood went on a working holiday from which I never returned. After seeing something of Europe and the Middle East I settled in London and started writing.
I now live an idyllic life in Wales.
The idea for Beyond the Island came to me in a dream. The story took several years to write and in 2012 became my first published novel.
In 2013 I published my second novel, New Voices in the Valley, which is set in Wales.
In May 2014 I travelled around Wales by bus and wrote Bus Pass Holiday: A Short Circuit.
In 2014 I also published Return to the Island, the sequel to Beyond the Island.
The sequel to New Voices in the Valley, entitled Scream at the Mountains, was published in November 2015.
Through 2015 and 2016 I resumed my travels, and Bus Pass Holiday #2: The Long and Short of It was published late in 2016.
Having attended a school reunion I put fingers to keyboard once again, and published Twenty Years On in November 2018. My schoolmates have nothing to fear - the characters are totally fictitious. Honest.
More novels are at the planning stage - watch this space.

- Reviewed in the United States on September 12, 2014I loved this book! it is a tale set in a Welsh village, with characters that slowly unfold as does the land and community that bind all. There is a bit of everything in this novel, it races along at a good pace, and weaves a web of intrigue around the different members of the community. Highy recommended. Makes me very much want to visit Wales ( and the Valley!)
- Reviewed in the United States on March 23, 2014UK Village life, l Love it and this book captures it perfectly. A great read, think "Doc Martin" only in Wales. Excellent characters and plot development. Highly recommend.

- Reviewed in the United States on April 12, 2014A lovely read with many different colourful characters, all having their own problems and trying to find solutions whilst still managing to have time for each other. Even a certain amount of real danger. I don’t want to give too much away but I can’t wait to read the next book to find out what happens to them afterwards. Certainly recommend this book .
- Reviewed in the United States on December 1, 2016New Voices In The Valley is a contemporary novel set in the small village of Allt-yr- coch, Wales in 2002. This is a big read coming in at around 447 pages. It follows the lives of a large cast of characters as they go about their day to day lives. Villagers range from a young Polish girl running away from her abusive husband, a new widow who turns her hand to x-rated phone calls, bringing in the cash, a bored husband who changes his ways to help the community and start up his band and a kebab shop owner whose strong religious beliefs bring danger and terror.
The style of writing tends towards telling us about the events and incidents, making it a dedication and a nod to the local people this book could well have been based on in a loose way. There were opportunities to show the reader, through well written descriptive layering of people and settings, which could have given the book a flamboyance to lift the characters from the pages. I know the author will have wonderful pictures of everyone and where they lived and worked but those pictures didn't quite reach my own eyes during this reading.
One of my favourite characters was Linda, a widow who turned her life and finances around by answering a job ad to sell sex by phone. She even persuaded her bored friend to sign up and earn quick cash too.
This book might appeal to readers who enjoy a large cast of characters and snooping into their soap opera style, everyday lives.

5.0 out of 5 stars Funny, well-written and Welsh
New Voices in the Valley is a gem. From the enigmatic arrival of the Polish bombshell, Danuta, in a small Welsh town, to the discovery of a unexpected evil residing in the heart of the community, I was aware that this was going to be a book about real people living real lives. And what lives! Some of the residents of Allt-yr-Coch are quite outrageous! I was hugely entertained by Linda and Carole as I followed their impetuous escapades. I was rooting for Danuta in her search for love, and I loved the portrayal of the trend-setting, London band `Atonement'.
With several compelling storylines, and characters who you will care about, this is a very pleasing way to spend an afternoon or two, confident in the knowledge that you are in the hands of a fine storyteller. If you've never been to Wales, you'll learn a thing or two and if you have, you might be surprised at what goes on behind closed doors!

5.0 out of 5 stars True to life
This is a well written book about life as it is in the valleys today, a sharp contrast to the valleys of my youth. It is populated with well- drawn, larger than life characters who strive to make a living in which ever way they can. As ever, hope remains and will ever be the driving force. Sex, crime and family life in its fullest sense is present in this work.

5.0 out of 5 stars A visit to the valleys
If you ever wondered what goes on in those sleepy little welsh valley villages have a read of this novel. There is a lot going on, from late-night rendezvous to terrorist recruitment and training...just like most valley villages.
The tale is woven well, humour and sadness within the tale.
Go on, take a punt...you'll enjoy it...I did!
