Book One of a soon-to-be six book series, A Town Called Potato is a lighthearted murder mystery set in space.
Normal Earth guy, Gabriel Lake, is recruited by alien detectives to help track a missing princess hiding out on Earth. Before Gabe knows it, a murder has been committed, and he’s flying across the galaxy meeting wacky space people. Can a mere Earthling track a killer across the stars before more lives are lost? Can he negotiate his way around other worlds and understand the ways of extra-terrestrial cultures? For that matter, can he even figure out how to use an alien bathroom? And can he uncover the mystery of A Town Called Potato?
Targeted Age Group:: YA and Adult
What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
I love detective stories, and I love sci-fi, so why not put them together? And I've been influenced enough by Terry Pratchett and Douglas Adams, that I had to add some humor. I mean, people are funny, and aliens are people too.
How Did You Come up With Your Characters?
The protagonist is a lot like me, a computer guy and kind of a smart aleck. Oren Vilkas, the head of the detective agency, is a lot like Nero Wolfe. And other characters are based on people I've met and fictional characters ranging from my twin grandsons to Rosa Diaz of Brooklyn Nine-Nine.
