What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
NaNoWriMo is a wonderful experience for anyone with an interest in writing. This book was the product of my aim to write a NaNoWriMo book in half the time, complete with a in interesting plot, premise and memorable people.
How Did You Come up With Your Characters?
Most characters I write are extensions of my personality or certain quirks I spot in friends and family. I am also a huge fan of the buddy genre of films and I wanted to explore that in a mystery setting, with a dark humour tone. This ensures I stay true to what I write without having to fall into conventions or tropes.
Never in the history of that third rate pub had anyone made such a grand entrance after visiting the washroom. Aaron dashed to the table he was sitting at to find Julia waiting patiently for him. He passed a row of surprised gasps and tried to talk to Julia. Julia wore a shocked expression as she looked at his arm. He noticed that he was clutching onto something. He brought it to his face and realized that he was clutching a wig.
It was in that moment that he had realized that he had made a "wig" mistake. The sudden dose of adrenaline was making it hard for him to process things. He looked at Julia, whose expression had changed. She was gripping a short cylindrical object in her hands. She looked afraid and determined at the same time.
“Aaron, whatever happens, stay behind me.” She said grabbing his arm. She flicked her arm downwards and the cylinder expanded into a makeshift baton. Before he could register his protest, Aaron was suddenly behind Julia. As his breathing was finally calming down, the power went off in the pub and all he could hear was rabid screaming.
