What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
This book is a sequel. It is book two of the Stephanie Series. Book one is The World Inside Stephanie’s Head. I was not originally going to write a sequel. There were some fans that contacted me, and asked if I would write one. One thing that was said to me stuck in my mind, and that was “I don’t think this story is over. Stephanie still has more to say.” I thought about the want for a sequel, and about that statement for a couple weeks. I decided they were right; Stephanie had more to say.
How Did You Come up With Your Characters?
These characters came from the first book. My characters come from a lot of places. Their personalities could be from a person I know, or someone I admire. One character could be a personality of several people I know. I also believe that my characters have some traits from me.
Stephanie woke up screaming, and she was drenched in sweat. Since she had “Come back to the land of the living,” as Nick called it, a month ago she had been having the same nightmare every night. She wasn’t sure if it had been an actual event, or memories of a book that Nick used to read to her. All she knew was that there was a guy she did not remember and he had beaten her up pretty bad. The second part of the dream she was lying in a hospital bed hearing people talking about rape. When she had brought it up to Nick, he suggested that she talk to Dr. Zale about it. When she had, the doctor had remarked that dreams do not always mean exactly what we see. In other words, Stephanie was getting the run around. She knew that everyone was worried about her retreating inside herself again, but to continue to get better she felt she had to work through her issues.
Nick came running in and knelt beside Stephanie. “Are you alright?”
“Yeah, just the dream again.” Stephanie sighed.
“Did you talk to Dr. Zale about it?” Nick asked, standing up and sitting in the chair by the desk.
“Yes, he seems to think that my dream means something other than what I am dreaming, though he has not offered another explanation.” Stephanie said, getting out of bed.
“Are you ready to venture passed these walls yet?” Nick asked, pointing at the door.
“Nick…” Stephanie gasped with her normal anxiety filled voice. Another side effect of whatever trauma she had been through, but could not remember.
“Steph, you can’t stay in this room forever.”
“You said the C word Nick.”
Nick sighed, and rolled his eyes. “I believe the doctor was referring to you, when he said, that the word can’t, would not be something he would allow.” Nick smiled.
“A punishment is a punishment, Nick.”
Nick merely smiled and shook his head.
“We really need to think of a different punishment.” Nick said, standing up.
“Well, until then…” Stephanie snickered, waving her hand for Nick to continue.
“You are having way too much fun with this.”
Stephanie gave Nick the come on, quit stalling look.
“Alright, I said I can’t, but what I really mean is I can. I can do anything that I set my mind to do; no matter how difficult it may seem at the time.”
“Good boy.” Stephanie laughed.
“So, how exactly does this help you?” Nick asked, squinting.
“I am not the one that said the C word.” Stephanie snickered.
